    Hi,
I am planning to make a custom transformers impactor figure using:
    RID Bludgeon
    Styrene rods/sheets/tubes for chest/gun
    Grey Surface primer Tamiya
Tamiya spray paint chrome yellow/ Purple lavender

The figure will be based loosely on the original impactor from G1 UK comics and the new IDW version.

    My main concerns are:

    Ensuring paint sticks near perfectly
Modifying the chest to be more square using styrene
    Making the head
    Building the gun,

For the gun I plan to use styrene strips as I have hundreds of pieces and want to use as much up as possible.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated

Thanks I plan to do the legs first, basically re-paint them Yellow and maybe add some extra ports for his weapons.

The chest will be by far the hardest part to do. I have seen ppl on online who have done similar things to my idea. The hardest part will be modding the head to be more roman like.

Yeh and applied Tamiya grey primer i think i put too much on though, I think it would have been better to paint the parts with a brush using enamel paints as my bro said.

But I heard that water+ oil paints do not mix well?

If your paints are not sticking well as it should despite primer being applied, there could be a few causes - the primer hasn't dried and fully cured and there's nothing for the primer to "bite on" in the surface. Try giving it a light sanding with a 1000 grit sand paper. As for the bubbles, there might be some impurities in the surface of your plastic. Try sanding of the bubbles and give the kit a scrub again. Then reapply primer.

I tried doing some thing similar using the same mold last year - but gave up,
This mold in both modes is perfect for impactor,

Can i advise you to not paint him as the plastic colour is good enough,
Also track down a cheap G2 megs - same size, then you get all his purple bits,
Then you can combine the parts needed, this saves painting,
Do need some alcahol to remove the paint apps,
And I'd recommended classics/universe astrotrain for the head,
Ile post a pic of how far I got if you want to see,

    Think the idea had potential,
all i managed to do was part swap the colours from the 2 molds, add a couple of small stickers to the chest and waist,

next on my list would of been - remove the camo apps from the purple and the green apps from the yellow,
harpoon hand and cannon leaving the classics astrotrain head to last,

I really like that you have this fitting in with your G1s. It does really well, yet if you wanted, you could put it on your Classics shelf as well. Bravo! :thumb

Hi, thx again for the pics
I have decided on his transformation based on funnily enough playing world of tanks, his alt-mode is going to be a Tank Destroyer. The rubber hose/bubble part are going to be removed and replaced with a (whateverIcan find parts) custon cannon. Might also add grills/silver pipes to make him stand out more look more deadly.

I have spotted a G2 Megs on Ebay from USA

I'm just now stripping of all the black/green paints from the RID bludgeon and Hero megatron parts using Isopropyl Alcohol.

As I want to get the figure as close as possible to the G1 version I do need some Yellow/purple paints that match the paint as close as possible on the figure which i think I have at the moment.

In regards to spray painting how do i prevent bubbles/lines appearing? I'm getting a bit annoyed by it as i have been testing it using a piece of styrene.

Also can I use enamel paints or do they have to all be water-based? The bloke at the hobby store confused me a bit with the paint types.

    Impactor update issues

    hi guys,

here is my current work on impactor, swapped the legs round and tracks and also attempted (failed) to get some of the black deco of the Archforce figure using isoprpyne alcohol.

It sort of worked but I ended up scratching the plastic which i need to fix and I might try stronger solution as I still have some green bits on the yellow legs which looks odd.

The harpoon has been completed using parts of the cannon and styrene pieces.
Also made an attempt on the cannon which didn't quite work.

I encountered a bit of problem with regards to painting it, how would i get nearest possible colour for the Impactor purple/Yellow legs?

Nice and easy custom there mate.
If you could/want, you can modify the head a bit to look more like impactor, but I can see this totally as a straight Has-Tak repaint too(like they did to the bludgeon you used that was just megs repainted, with no retool). Either way, what you've done here works.

    Well my only question is:

Should I use the G2 megs purple parts, or ree-piant completely the Bludgeion figure as it is a lighter colour so the paint will shine out more as i understand??

Also it would be impossible(expensive) to get a specific purple paint that matches the purple on the megs anyway as I have to re-paint-redo the gun itself.
