We have had so many people signing up at the last minute it will
take us the weekend to process all of the memberships and renewals.

So we have decided to extend the membership sign up until 4:30 pm on
Friday as we can still enter them in the database.

Please post on the fourms that we have extended the sign up deadline
until Friday 4:30 central. As long as you sign up by that time you will
get this year's free memebership figure. You can do the membership
    renewal or sign up at:
    http://transformersclub.com/shop/index.cfm?do=subscribe&productid=681

    Thanks for your support,

    Brian

So, let me get this straight. They extend the deadline, specifically saying it's because they're getting so many renewals, and this is called "spin."

I guess it hasn't occurred to anyone that FP just might be telling the truth.

    Well let's see.

Considering the only "feedback" that any of us are aware of was more or less completely negative in regards to Landquake, with numerous people expressing their discontent, absolutely *NO* advertisement on any Hasbro product for new members to sign up, meaning the only advertisement is coming from websites like ours or Brian's E-mails, I'd have to say it's leaning more towards "fiction" than "fact".

But hey, his idea of "so many renewals" may not be what we're thinking of (thousands!) and be more like a few hundred (which is very believable), but for them to *NOT* expect that would mean they're shooting themselves in the foot as far as what they expect to get as a "return", so to speak.

It's all a game. Being a Journalism/PR major in college, you never announce bad news, and if you do, you spin it positive.

...What are you talking about? There's advertisements for joining the Collectors' Club on the box on every new Cybertron toy that's come out in the past few months.

Heck, if you don't believe me, look at the new pics of the back of Skywarp on-card (near the bottom):

Yes, just like there was so much complaining about Casino Night, yet on the feedback forms, it was one of the highest-rated things at the 'Con. People always are more vocal about what they hate than what they love or are impartial to.

Have to say upon reading this news my first thought was indeed "No one's renewing and they're trying to cover."

Could the release be telling the truth? Sure. But taking into account the almost entirely negative responce the club has been getting from the fandom (judging from message board posts) it seems less likely.

I know I'm not renewing. I'd LOVE it if the club was good enough to justify renewing but it simply hasn't been. The newsletter is too short and comes too rarely, the exlusives and comic have been unexciting, the store a joke, the online component practically nonexistant, and so on.

If they are seeing a huge drop in enrolement I hope it communicates to them that the club isn't meeting fans desires and they try to change, rather than just give up and close down.

-ZacWilliam, would be thrilled to come back if the club could just make itself into something that it'd be fun and worthwhile to belong to.

If by no advertisement you mean placing the collectors club logo and website address on all new products since the BW reissues, then yeah.

In my defense, I've purchased all of two products since the BW 10th re-issues, and did not even notice the advertisement that's the size of 2/3rds a paperclip on the back of the package next to the legal mumbo-jumbo.

Considering that a lot of people put things off until the last minute, it seems reasonable enough to me.

I got my membership just last week. I'm sure I'm not the only one who waited until just before the deadline to decide.

When I called in about the renewel I grilled the person about the high costs and lack of exclussive content.

Most of what I got as an answer is "There is nothing we can do about it."

I'm giving them one more chance, but if the store, international shipping, and exclusive content doesn't improve I'll probably drop it.

My only weakness here : I'm a huge sucker for combiners.

I dunno, I waited until the last minute...like a week ago and it was processed within an hour (my update showed at the top of the boards that quickly) I don't know how many people it would take to overwhelm them with membership...on the other hand one doesn't normally extend a deadline due to being overwhelmed...honoring ones that came in, sure, but ones that have been in the "to-do" pile is a totally different matter. I know I have never said "Hey I got a LOT of paperwork to do...it'll take all weekend...can you please pile more on? :lol  ".

If it were me, and membership was lacking, I'd have announced an actual store exclusive...that seems to be a major gripe "The deadline for the free figure has passed, but you should still sign up now or you might miss your chance for (Insert hopefully cool figure here) plus you'll recieve the 3rd figure of the combiner FREE with the option to purchase the Landquake figure from our club store once the 2nd figure becomes available there. So you don't miss out"....but, again, that's just me :)

I think this is most likely the case as well. I know I didn't renew until yesterday. It's not that a million people decided to join because they were excited about the exclusives or the club. It's that most people waited til last minute. Even if "most people" means 1000 or so. The overall membership # compared to last year can indeed be down though.

I renewed a couple weeks ago. It took about 60 seconds. I hope the club doesn't fold, since that would be pretty lame to get 2/5 of a combiner. Also, it's cool to have an organization that caters to fans rather than the masses. Of course, it would be cooler if these people were actually Super Fans/Collectors of TFs. I'm very curious to see how this year goes.

I'd also like to think they are not blatantly lieing in their e-mails. "We have so many orders" is not spin if that's not the case, it's a fabrication.
