News Post: Transformers: Bumblebee - Empire Magazine Scans And Travis Knight Interview
I don't see the Megatron design influence on Dropkick.
I guess I can kinda see Nightbird in Shatter.. but dropkick is meant to homage G1 Megs?
quirky sense of humor for dropkick hope it lands well
look at his head shape
Travis is now my favorite director. I will see all your movies.
i can totally be wrong but wasnt dropkick an emo from his origins wonder if they'll use that
Outright good choice in hiring someone that's more versed in animation, the transition of animation habits to live action in something like this with an eye for detail, imagery, symbolism, and subtlety to carry metaphors and emotional play is definitely everything the franchise needs. Sometimes less is more, so the hearkening back to simplicity, including in the designs of different areas really does work well. Really looking forward to this movie, and his take on the concepts.
I have nothing against Bay either. There's much he did in the films I liked as well. There's no perfect way to do Transformers, and with how the market grows, expectations change with the times as mentalities grow and evolve.
Basic jist of this interview: fuck creativity, make everything G1
Love hearing the design process of this. Hope we get an artbook of it.
Also, love and love hearing how passionate he is for this movie. Even if they movie isn't great at least it's got passion behind which is the most we could get from these movies.
Transformer Fans: Man, why can\'t the movie do updated G1 designs!
(Movie does that)
Transformer Fans: Well, they are just copying G1 now, this will suck!
(Mr. Chaos puts on a top hat and cane)
Mr. Chaos (singings): Annnnnddddd... that\'s why this fandom sucks!
from what i can tell the storyboard is when charlie and bumblebee first meet
it be hard the movie has been gettting praised it would be hard if the movie wasnt great
Glad we finally got a director who wants to make a good film rather than a pyrotechnic showcase.
as opposed to the creative genius of "make every decepticon growl for 30 seconds and then explode" that we've gotten for 5 movies?
I really trust that Travis Knight actually knows what he's doing. It can be argued that there's not a lot of risk with this film, but I think that's okay with this particular film. A small film about Bumblebee makes sense for the character and the franchise at this point. I think Bumblebee will have more success with finding an audience than the previous films as this film knows what it wants to be, which is more than I can say for the rest of the franchise post-2007.
Man...if what it takes for the movie franchise to make a proper good movie the general populace can enjoy then make it as G1 as possible, if that's what the team behind it is passionate about then so be it. Every other aspect of the franchise can be new and exciting, but if someone wants to recreate the stories they made up with their old dinky G1 toys for the films, then fine.
Heaven forbid the hunks of unidentifiable scrap will now be... *gasp* recognizable.
