So, Unicron (from the boards) and I did this Optimus Prime a while back for Palisades to see if they were interested in trying to do some transformers block figures. They are basically like Palz or Kubricks. Most of the body parts are interchangable with just the head sculpt and chest piece being unique for each bot.

I did 6 others to show Hasbro. While thought it was an interesting concept they did not seem all that excited. If you guys like I will post up the rest, even though I never finished the 2d detail parts.

I'd be interested to see what 6 figures you guys put together.

Dang, I would've bought that if they made it!
Btw, curious about your software and lighting setup.
Mental Ray? Brazil? We use 3DS Max at my company.

Top design, Primus - damn shame Hasbro wouldn't know a good idea half the time if it came up and bit them.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of them! :thumb

That's cool - Transformer block figures. I like it. :D

As for Hasbro's opinion, well, their reluctance to tackle block figures may have something to do with the fact that they dropped the ball on Built To Rule - although, if you engineered them right, block Transformers could still be transformable (at least more so than those tear-the-robot-apart-and-rebuild-it-in-alt-mode BTR sets).

Gorgeous! If they were interested in marketing this type of product, seems like they would have simply imported the MyClones, though. Except for the deco and the weapons, they look nearly identical, including the interchangeable parts.

In all honesty though, I don't think they look that much like myclones. If you are fimiliar with this type of block figure I think you would agree.

    Megatron coming up next....

Really? The resemblance is striking to me.

Regardless, I would have definitely picked them up. Sorry they didn't come to fruition.

Here was the next guy I did after Prime. I never did get around to finishing the 2D textures, or working with someone else to do that. I figured that Optimus was good enough to explain the concept. Although, perhaps if I had finished them all Hasbro may have reacted differently. I do think that they have something similar coming out though, which may explain their hesitation. Seems like DON is the only one that can work with hasbro from the outside :p

    Kubrick style TF's FTW! :rock

These would have worked out so well, a shame that they never were able to see the light of day.

My one suggestion is maybe to put a second arm thing on the outer elbow, so that the upper part slid in between the two parts, it would make the proportions more square. Just a suggestion.

I love the style man. They look like they'd grip much better than MyClones for sure. Too bad Hasbro didn't bite.

Ask and you shall receive!! Next up, Bumblebee.

I had envisioned something like Star Wars Lego's type of video game attached to this type of thing.
