    Is animated part of G!?

The classic show clips shown in the episode.

Ratchet might be the classic ratchet. (Didn't he die?)

Prime not the first optimus prime.

    What do you guys think?

    Is this like beast wars?

Classic names on new transformers or like RID,

New show with classic stuff thrown but not part of the G1 series.

    Most likely.

Yep, I have the impression too that Animated might be along the lines of RID. Not very serious and not related to anything else.

    *SPOILERS*

    - They reference G1 in the first episode. The Autobots talk of "The Great War", and actual G1 clips are shown.
    - Ratchet is said to have fought in said war.

Probably playful tributes. These are new incarnations of characters, and Optimus Prime is a rookie.

Unless everyone yells "now the ORIGINAL Optimus Prime, THAT was a leader!" every time Animated Op makes a mistake, I'm gonna say no. :)

I think Transformers Animated is the sequel to the GO-BOTS. :p

Well maybe not the sequel, but it sure looks like the crappy cartoon work that was present in the GO-BOTS cartoon back in the 80's. Clunky over-exagerated body parts were present in the GO-BOTS cartoon, and really left a bad taste in my mouth for that type of animation. Some of the TF's faces in Animated remind me of the GO-BOT's faces. Actually it also reminds me of Teen Titans. Maybe this is a genetic mutation of Teen Titans and the GO-BOTS. :p

Sorry, this cartoon looks crappy to me, but maybe the story will make up for the cartoon's shortcomings.

    No.

Fanwank - I think they just used G1 clips to illustrate the previous "great war" that Ratchet may have participated in, but it's not meant to be a continuation.

He's not, and he did die.

If you mean he's not G1 Prime you are correct, he's "Animated" Prime.

    Animated is it's own universe.

    No.

Or perhaps a "re-imaging" based off of G1 (like the movie was)

    Exactly.

I doubt its a sequal. Just another RID like Universe except a bit more G1ish. Now what would be cool is if they had done a series that did a G1 to Beast Wars Mini-series or something and place it during the time of the upgrade to Maximals and Predacons.

Yeah, its pretty much tradition now to start another universe for another series while still paying homage to the original series. The same thing was done during Armada/Energon/Cybertron.

Armada had many G1 character models thrown in, Energon had Rodimus become a leader during a great war...that several G1 characters served under, and Cybertron featured G1 Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Jazz, and someone else.

    All homages. No sequels.

Homagetastic. So long as this ancient war existed and we don't need to go into huge detail about it the number of ancient g1 updates were likely to receive are vast.

Do something about the chins though. This animation style can retain its form without that tacky preference.
