I'm not sure where to put this thread, since I can't post in the proper TFA thread. So here:

I made this thread to see how many homages TFA had throughout the series. It can range from G1 and Gobots to Beast Wars and Armada. Listing the episodes and a few details would be helpful, or possibly a picture! :D
Let's see who can spot the most! :D  :dj

I'll kick off. The G1 footage from the first TFA episode is a prime example.

Blurr's design is based off of Transtech Cheetor.

Crazy/irresponsible idea: make a drinking game out of this!

Wreck-gar DARES to be stupid, referencing Weird Al's song "Dare to be Stupid" which played during the Junkion scene in the original movie.
He also throws his G1 counterpart's bike mode at one point.
And later uses the universal greeting.

I'll list the ones I see by character.

Optimus Prime - clearly, he's mostly a G1 design homage. Firetruck, dissapearing trailer, physically resembles him. The lips, as Wyatt's said, look like Beast Machines Primal's lips. His retractable faceplate comes from BW, the films, and the Unicron Trilogy. His antennae are more bunny-like, like Movie Prime. As far as character, he's like a new version of Primal, a young inexperienced but superb leader who was not meant for combat, and is ordered around by a somewhat bureacratic government (Maximal High Council, Ultra Magnus).

Ratchet - his character archetype mostly resembles G1 Ironhide and Kup. He's the traditional red and white, and has the squiggly line of the heart beat from Movie Ratchet.

Bulkhead is named after the Energon Bulkhead, but has the paint job of G1 Hound.

Prowl is a police vehicle, as in G1, but as a motorcycle. He has the G1 forehead crest, and mostly the same personality, and has taken charge on occasion when Prime isn't around.

Bumblebee has the racing stripe of Movie Bumblebee, the youth of G1, and is mostly a design homage to G1 anyway.

Megatron's Cybertronian mode is a huge homage to his 2007 movie counterpart, complete with the helmet too. He has the trusty fusion cannon from G1 as well. On Earth, his vehicle mode resembles BM Obsidian, and his robot mode is of course a G1 homage as well.

Starscream screams G1 everywhere he goes, albeit he seems sleeker and thinner like his Armada counterpart. His voice, alternate mode, colors, null rays, everything is Starscream.

Blitzwing's... well, G1 Blitzwing. Lugunt is original.

Basically the only characters who aren't some kind of homage are Bulkhead, Lugnut, Sentinel Prime, Lockdown, Dirt Boss, Jetfire, Yoketron, Lightbright, and Lickety-Split (this list shamelessy nicked from the TFWiki).

And a TFA Homage drinking game would be deadly.

To help tell the Starscream clones apart, Swindle gives the Ramjet a conehead accessory and Sunstorm a boxy helmet resembling those of the Generation 1 Seekers.

Bulkhead was an homage to a character from the Mighty Orbots. Dirt Boss was an homage to the Gurren from Gurren Lagann.

Sentinel Prime was named after G1 Sentinel Prime, but had little connection to the character.

There were some characters that were very, very loose homages. Prowl isn't much like G1 Prowl in terms of looks and personality. They're main connection is they're both police vehicles and they have an icy cold demeanor, though G1 Prowl was big into logic while Animated Prowl was big into spirituality. Animated Prowl reminds me a lot of Dinobot, really.

Animated Bumblebee and Optimus physically resembled their G1 selves but their personalities were nothing alike. You could argue that Animated Prime is what G1 Prime would have been like when he was younger though, and I'd believe it.

Animated Bee was almost the total opposite of G1 Bee in terms of personality though, and was more of a Cheetor or Hot Shot. Although they did both have self-confidence issues with their short stature, G1 Bee was much more upfront about it, whereas Animated Bee was constantly hiding his insecurity and trying to compensate for it.

The episode "This is Why I Hate Machines" from season 3 is full on made of homages. Everything from Rattrap, to Maccadam's Old Oil House. Also an absurd number of background characters.
