    Transformers Alternity Starscream

    Alt Mode

Starscream's alternate mode is an Mitsuoka Orochi sportscar.

    Very solid design. Awesome detailing.

    Transformation

To keep it simple, the car consists of the front, middle and back. These three parts are joined together by the middle pieces, ie the doors.

Detach the three pieces by unhooking them from each other at the side of the car.

The door pieces pop off easily. Be careful when you detach them from the front piece. Mine fell on the floor several times. *paintchip danger

Let the pictures show you how it looks like. (I've transformed the legs first so that the figure can stand)

As you can see, there is a fourth piece that is the one overlying from front to rear at the back of the car. Free it from the main body.

    The legs

Firstly, separate the rear piece into two right down the middle. unfold the legs at the knee joint.

Next, you need to push down the blue piece so that it'll slide down.

The next part is a bit complicated.

Fold the white fin 90 degrees up and then rotate the whole wheel assembly 90 degrees.

The tires are able to slide. (as seen below)

Slide them horizontally and then down.

It should then look like this.

The tab that you see on the tire piece, hook it into the space in the blue piece.

The feet are fairly simple. Just wiggle the feet free from the rest of the leg piece and fold it so that it takes shape. the forefeet is folded out from underneath.

    The front

The front is quite straightforward. Rotate each front piece along the vertical axis till the underneath of the
hood is now facing forward. The arms will follow the rotation.
Then, rotate the shoulders 90 degrees upwards till the tab is now facing upwards to hook on the black pieces that can fold down from underneath the front piece.

Rotate the weapons on the arms.

    The door pieces

Rotate the door pieces till it rests alongside the hips.

    Middle overlying piece

Rotate this piece to form the wings of Starscream.
Rotate the fins till they point upwards.

Lastly, bring up the hip piece and attach it to the black tab on the bottom of the chest piece. There is an automorph feature here,
whereby the head will appear as you fold the hip piece upwards.

    Robot mode

The robot mode is very well designed. Essentially, you'll be able to tell that this is Starscream. The colour scheme fits in quite
well with the G1 colours of the character.

There's a good mix of blue and white on the legs and feet, the underneath of the overlying pieces on the shoulder are painted red.
The wings have a streak of red running through them.

    Very nice.

The articulation on Starscream is quite good as well, equipped with ankle articulation and clicky hip joints! This on top of the usual ball joint movement at the shoulders and elbows. The knee joint can flex up to 130 degrees. There are no articulated fingers and there is rotation at the wrist joint. Disappointingly, the head can rotate and look up but not downwards. You can manipulate the chest piece so that he can look down but his face will be hidden.

    Size comparison to Megatron.

    Complaints

Couple of issues with the figure though.

The blue connecting piece at the knees are hard as hell to transform at first, but you'll get used to it. Problem is, by the time you do
your 2nd transformation, some paint chip may have happened like mine here.

Secondly, the hip piece that hooks onto the chest piece is also prone to paint wear.

I may have pressed the hip piece a bit too hard to secure it in place while transforming. Just a heads-up though.

Lastly, I know there's a lot of concern about the head mold of this guy. Seriously, there isn't much too wrong about it to be honest.
The pictures taken before were at too close a distance and at that range, he does not have a face that you would kiss. It really isn't that bad
    further away.

Then there are some who have said that he has insect-like eyes etc. Well, in the stats sheet that come with the figure, it is mentioned that Starscream has quadruple optics.
Whoever came up with the idea of a 4-eyed Starscream?

Anyways, I think that Takaratomy has done an excellent job with this next release in the Alternity line. I have yet to open my Alternity Skywarp, but from the looks of it, everything is pretty much the same other than slight redeco on the head.

    Transformers Alternity Starscream:

A definite buy. You will not regret it.

Hmm..still think Skywarp looks better (better head, too)..so I will pick the mold up, although not this figure. :)

Btw, I think it's a Mitsuoka Orochi. Hence the name Mitsuoka on the back..

    Cool photos!

I SO want this. Only slightly less than I want Skywarp. Such a goood looking figure; such a shame to see the standard problems with diecast and paint reappearing though.

Wow, some very VERY clever aspects to the transformation! The only thing I would be concerned about would be the QC issues - those paint apps look shoddy at best.
Still, the design and aesthetics of Starscream I think just about compensate and overall he looks like a decent toy.

I'll probably leave him in car mode to display with skywarp in robot mode. Lots of really nice details in the mold though!

Wow, is that thing ever ugly! Compared to the previous Alternity's I think this thing looks horrible! Good thing I haven't gotten into buying these guys.

well, i got the super black convoy and silver megatron last year in japan, and i will say i'm quite pleased with both, but this one is kind of a meh for me. skywarp definitely looks better than starscream (agree all around there), but both of their heads are just damn ugly IMO. Megatron's head was kind of ugly, sure, but these guys' faces look damn catlike.

His eyes remind me of Waspinator! Same with the rest of the face. It might look cool as a repaint.

I'm not a big fan of "Carscream" as a concept but the figure looks good in both modes.
