Does TF3 have a chance of beating LOTR to become the new 4th bigest movie of all time world wide.
Maybe. Im not sure. But looking at Box Office Mojo, maybe.
Taking into account inflation? NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Not taking into account inflation? PROBABLY NOT.
It'd still have to gross an additional $30 million in order to do so, and the movie may be raking in the money like few movies can, but at this point in the game, DotM has had its run. DotM has been released in most major markets now, and is - at most - a few weeks from moving to the cheap theatres. The $$$ is still trickling in, maybe a few million every weekend, but even that may not be enough. I suppose it is still possible, but even if it did manage to outgross LOTR 3's $1.119 billion grossings, it wouldn't be by much. We're talking mere fractions here, if it surpassed it at all.
So it'll be interesting to see. It had an amazing run either way.
TF Fans lets try to make the film gross 30 more million dollars.
We have to find those weird one-screen theaters
I doubt it.
DOTM have to make 30 Million in 30 Days or so. On September the "lifetime" ends I believe.
It's a hard target... but I have high hopes. Go for it TF3!
I can still pass but not maybenot by the movie sales, but by DVD, blu-ray, and trilogy combo pack then it can pass LOTR
Well, BOM just updated to say $1.095 billion. Maybe that "$1.1 billion" I spoke of is achievable. But yeah, $1.120 is doubtful. Just a little too far away.
Well, it did!!!!! And damn, I remember people saying this movie wouldn't even beat the first Transformers in gross.
I thought it was gonna be a flop due to how people felt about the last one.
ROTF was a critical flop, but it was a commercial success. The audience loved it, it was critics who didn't.
BIG difference between the audience paying to go see it and the audience loving it. Proof of that is all over the internet and especially on TF forums: tons of us paid to go see that pile of shit and thereby contributed to its box office take, but that didn't mean we actually liked what we paid for. As always, financial success or even popularity does not necessarily equate to being "good".
All the same, I too am surprised at how well DOTM ended up doing considering the almost universal scathing of ROTF got and continues to get. But to be fair, only in my personal opinion of course, DOTM was undeniably a better movie.
And yet, people all over the internet have also claimed to have seen the movie multiple times. And, with the cinemascore at an A, the movie still doing business, and more than likely the DVD's will be selling like hotcakes (as well as ROTF) is all the proof you need to know that more people did like the movies than did not.
You need to re-read my post and what I actually quoted. I was referencing Split's blanket statement that "the audience loved it" in regard to ROTF. I never said anything about the quality of all three of the movies or downplayed DOTM's current & continuing success.
I loved ROTF actually and most of my friends did too, We all saw it multiple times. Even with its flaws. Its still a very enjoyable movie over all. I can see why this franchise is so wildly popular and successful.
Really glad to see that it did! Plus in terms of ROTF I dont know a person that dislikes ROTF. Typically I get the comments of "its not as good as the first" but no one has said they disliked it! Only time I hear about the hate for it is on the internet!
And I still stand by my statement. It may not have been a good movie, but it was alright, entertaining, and people did like it. Now, truly hated movies, despised or just truly plain bad, die real quick in the theaters. Green Lantern, Cowboys and Aliens, Fright Night????
Look, I personally don't care for the Twilight movies, but I can definitely see where the appeal is. The same can be said about Transformers. It has action, comedy, excellent CGI, and like it or not, it does have some decent characters that people have grown to love, so it's easy to see why it did bring in the ticket counts.
