Sounds like everything I was hoping for with this issue. Looking forward to seeing how things progress from here.

Read this issue yesterday. At least the action is picking up, although recently I've been swayed in the direction of Last Stand of the Wreckers.

Ok. I'm not sure if menasor arguing with his components is wacky cool; Or just ignorant of how g1 combination works.

The shorthand way of looking at it is that he's "menasor" not motormaster with four stunticons stuck on him. There is supposed to be a hive mind that creates the personality of the combiner. The more the ideas of the individuals conflict against each other makes the combiner mind slow and unresponsive.
    (see the constructicons)

Bruticus computron defensor and Predaking are very effective combiners because of the similar thought processes of the components.

If they have a spot in Transformers #6 where swindle gives menasor a upgrade
part or if it can be somehow said by menasor that the combination did not sync correctly. Then I'll except it. Its pretty fun.

Not all of the combiners work in the same way, but most of them are affected mentally in some way by the gestalt process. That split personality flaw has been a part of Menasor since the 80s. Menasor's mind is a mesh of the five Stunticons, but because the four cars hate Motormaster so much, it causes mental imbalances and occasionally arguments with each other as Menasor.

This personality quirk was probably last seen in Dreamwave's second G1 miniseries where Ultra Magnus baited the Stunticons to argue with each other, which proved to be their downfall.

Wow....this issue sounds like a helluva good time. I can't wait to get a copy of this.

Actually from the lines, it seems as though he is stepping up to Ultra Magnus. Either way, though, Bumblebee is done with everybody's crap. Love it. :D

Congratulation Mike, you completely manage to destroy Hot Rod in IDW verse.

Furman finally made a Hot Rod who was likable, cool, a bot who wouldn’t leave his brothers behind even when ordered to.

But you had to play the whole Rodimus Prime/incompetent leader card that ruined the character in S3/S4 in G1 .If it didn’t work back then why the hell did you think it would be a good idea to use it now? If your intent was to make him a cry baby then give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done

I smell the possibility of BB and Hot Rod/Rodimus butting heads for command of the Autobots in future.

And is Prime back in the game? Hoorah!

Funny how Menasor's components seem to be talking with each other.

I really hate the way they do the lettering on this, with the bots having "standard" comic balloons. It just really bugs me. i don't know why.

Having all the various speech balloons with tails pointed at Menasor's limbs just looks really amateurish.

    Thank you.

This is exactly what I thought when I read about this issue. I swear! It's like every writer who has ever written Hot Rod wants to punish him in some way for replacing Optimus! Or for "Killing" him, which is in itself a bullshit argument.

I was hoping that for once we would actually get to see him grow up into a competent leader, but no. Optimus killer doesn't deserve that.

Sorry if this sounded a little bitter, but i've been wanting to get that out for years.

Same goes with the depiction of Ultra Magnus. Costa is pandering to the bad stereotypes of Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime as "the incompetent emo whiner" and Magnus as "the guy who can't deal with it".

Frankly, neither of these depictions are really accurate in Season 3.

However, I think Costa is seeing fan feedback and responding to that. Ultra Magnus appears to be put in line by the end of this issue. Hot Rod is taken out of the story in such a way that they can easily provide a reason for a change in his personality if/when he returns at some point in the future. What happened to Hot Rod (for those who can't wait)?
He stole Ultra Magnus' ship and left Earth
