    quote:
"Despite a recent comment from Transformers director Michael Bay that the studio hasn't been going full speed ahead on a sequel because of the possible strike next year, Paramount Pictures has now set a June 29, 2009 release date for Transformers 2. It is unclear who all will return for the sequel, as far as crew and cast members. Hopefully we'll know more soon."

    discuss.

edit: ok so i checked their source and it says TF2 release date on June 26, 2009. which would make more since, since that is a friday. i dunno.

Very nice if that's true, would mean that the release date for AU/NZ would be June 28 - same day that TF1 came out this year. Would make a great 2 year anniversary :p

I have no doubt that it will be delayed at some point.

I guess I now know where I'll be on 6/26/09. Should be interesting to see if this holds or if the strike delays things.

Bitchin'... I just hope it's not rushed like Spider-Man 3 or motherfucking X-Men 3. But if Bay and Spielberg are back on board, wonderful.

That would be awesome release time, but I fear that if it gets delayed, it won't be by a couple of weeks, but a whole year.

Yes, I also fear that's too good to be true. I could wait for Dinobots vs Devastator till 2010 if necessary.

If it actually makes that date I'll be surprised. I expect somebody to shoot that down at some point.

Seeing this had trilogy in mind from the start they should have some basic idea of what direction they're gonna go in next, if not a whole lot more planned out already. I know there was a lot of downplaying about the sequel at first, but that could just be a little misdirection. Who knows.

    $10 says we get Galvatron!

I hope not. I absolutely loved G1 Galvatron, but every Galvatron since then has just been cheap. "Hey, I got a little bit of a power up so I'm gonna change my name to Galvatron."

I don't want to play Oprah's Advocate here because this news makes me as excited as a pig in crap, but isn't that date somewhat (not completely) indicative of us once again getting 15 minutes of robots and 2 hours of humans... That is, less than two years to produce a movie of which render farms (according to Bay) take one day a frame to render the bots?

Now my argument is completely flawed because with more money being pumped from the studio, ILM could become TLM and the entire facility used for the production of TF, but I still worry that in an effort to rush it, they will once againt take short cuts on developing the bot's relationship with themselves and the humans, because with such a tight deadline they won't be able to create as many effects, and let's face it, our robots in disguise are dependent on special effects...

Well there's the fact that MB established that no one saw or recorded the armagedon that took place in that city on part one, so our bots could remain in car mode through the entire sequel.

But I'm glad the original producer and director are back. Bay did a hellova job, and the kid inside of me is excited that I don't have as long to wait for the sequel as I did for the first one.

They probably already have. I'm sure they are much more ahead than we think, they probably began writing rough drafts for scripts after opening weekend, when it was obvious the movie was going to be a hit. Remember, they filmed Spiderman-2 in only two years, and that film was a million times better than the first Spiderman. I'm sure it can be done, the only thing that worries me is the strike...

Also, TRANSFORMERS 2 is coming out on my BIRTHDAY! WOOHOO!!

Well if we are taking bets already $10 says with the release date they are shoting for that no improvements will be made how the robots look, more human filler to the film, and the return of shaky, too dark, too gritty, too close cam.

Per computer. Render farms on ILM's scale have a lot of them.
