WTF are actors going to strike? I understand why the writers did it, but this is the first time I have heard that the actors were going to.
seriously, what do actors strike about? my lattes were never hot enough on set??? gimme a break. seems like those that make shit loads of money are never happy enough and complaining about everything. rest of us work everday as well just as hard as any other job, and yeah things suck sometimes but most pull through. Must be really tough to show up to set everyday to make a couple million.
The SAG contract expires in June, they wouldn't just be striking for the heck of it. If the contract expires & there has been no progress on a new contract, there'd likely be a strike. That said, since the writers & producers both worked something out, I'd say it lays the groundwork for a similar type of deal for the actors.
Actor's strike... go for it. I can get by watching the two most popular shows on TV, American Idol and American Idol Results Show.
Think for just a second... not every actor is a hollywood star and a millionaire. there are plenty of actors who need to work to eat and make a living. Just like not every script writer was selling them for a million, a lot actors, extras, and stand-ins don't make a ton of money. And the days are long, 12-16 hours. And once your part is done... you don't have a job anymore! You have to go out and get another part. You have to pay them well enough to survive. Thats why they formed unions. so that a big time stars can help out the little guys. so the guy who had 2 lines in some movie goes on strike, big deal... but if Tom Hanks goes on strike with him, then it IS a big deal. Simple fact is Hollywood is generating billions of dollars every year from movies and merchandising, and few actors see that money.
I can see it now... "Michael Bay commented today on the progress of TF2 in regard to the actor's strike. He said he's continuing to film and is playing all the roles himself. 'Nothing's going to stand in my way of releasing this thing on time. It's gonna be awesome, lots of robots talking to each other. The sound guys are doing magic with my voice and the visual effects guys are doing magic with my face.'"
I have several SAG members working alongside me at my day job. They do this job to make ends meet, because acting alone won't do it.
Mine workers didn't get triple-digit salaries and some of them died while working. I really doubt actors have anything to worry about, except for the possibility of semi-luxurious living.
This was discussed before the writer's strike. The SAG wanted to see how the writer's strike went and then they were considering hosting a strike to get things evened out with their lower level members. Top names make top dollar. Extras and lower level guys? They're barely scraping by most of the time. Funnily enough, the SAG striking at the right moment could be the one thing that would lead Bay to make a mostly Transformers filled Transformers movie, though if it went too long it would stop the movie from coming out on time because we'll never get a 100% Transformers filled movie. But it could be interesting to see what happens if he's forced to increase the amount of robot action to get around a strike. Though it's more likely we'd just see production wait for the strike to end. Either way, I'll be able to wait. It's not like I'm heading off-planet before the movie is done, whenever it gets done.
If Bay makes TF2 a prequel set on Cybertron, he won't need actors. Of course, there' always the voice actors.
I like how even though Bay made it pretty clear this time that he NEEDS his writers the "LOL BAY IS MAKIN IT HIMSELF" has already begun anew.
