He who rules the skies, wins the war. I might be a bit biased but...Its gotta be Masterpeice Starscream. even though mine came missing a thumb. It is a crazy detailed reproduction of the F-15 eagle. Great transformation, awesome robot mode, two facial expressions and Dr. Arkaville for the cockpit. Just amazing.
Quoted for truth. After many failed attempts, they've finally given us an articutlated Optimus Prime that turns into a COE, and doesn't look like it's been kicked around by Unicron. No more "Opti-cart."
I guess I'd go with Primus too, for its value in the toy and the story side of things (even if most of the Primus legend doesn't have too much to do with the Cybertron series.)
Alt. Mirage. Simply the best Alt. we've had yet. More importantly, an Alt. with an original transformation and no bumper chest. Classics Prime and Primus are also worthy contenders. A big thumbs down to MP Starscream for horrible quality issues, controversial colour choices, and a remold that upset a large portion of the fandom (allthough I will admit to preferring the remold). Also a big thumbs down to Nemesis Prime.
Well, Primus, of course, but I'd also like to vote for Soundwave. Thanks to GF/Cybertron, the name made the greatest comeback this year since the dancing Soundwave video Though the reissue isn't (officially) out yet nor Titanium, we've seen plenty of pictures of those figures as well.
Classics Prime Almost unique in that He is a Truck prime that has a decent looking and well articualted bot mode and a good truck mode and Indeed the first time They've managed to top the Laser Rod Prime without resorting to making Prime a Firetruck (which for no discrenamble reason seems to be easier to do well). Even considering him in a vacuim he manages to succeed on every level: his weapons are fun, perfectly integrated and actaully look like weapons (casts nasty look at most of the BW-era weapon-because-it-is-hand-held-by-the-robot-and/or-spring-loaded's ) , his articulation is AFAIK unsurpased in a mainline toy Classics Jetfire is on the same level, though I'd have prefered his Gauntlet weapons were regular guns (or just armour) instead of spring loaded missile launchers There were many Cybertron toys I rate at least as highly as these guys, but they were, in my mind at least, very much 2005 Toys. Primus fails to make my list primarily due to my aversion to massively out of scale TF's (like Unicron, Primus or the Giant Planet figures)
I agree with Switchblade, I think my vote would be for Rodimus. I'm not really a big fan of the character (don't hate him either, just don't love him like some). As folks have been saying, though, this year he had three great figures (if you count Cybertron Excellion) and a movie release. For a character who didn't even show up until near the end of the original franchise, he's being wedged pretty firmly into the mythos. Not to mention, this is probably his only chance at it.... after this year, it'll be all about the G1 characters again: Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, etc. Primus is a good figure, and definitely impressive. And it's cool to have a toy representation of Cybertron; if we were talking about FIGURE of the year, I might go with him as well. But as for Transformer of the Year... well, for now Primus is really only firmly connected to one continuity, the Cybertron one. Rodimus was well-represented across the whole Transformers universe this year.
Alt. Mirage would be the big winner for me. Followed closely by: Alt. Nemesis Prime Cybertron Primus Cybertron Wing Saber (to complete Prime's Sonic Wing Mode) The Cybertron Defense Team Cybertron Galvatron Cybertron Soundwave The War Within 6" Titaniums (OP, Jetfire & TC)
I have to give it to Classics Prime and Jetfire. They were always two of my favorite characters and these are great representations of them.
So is anyone gonna actually count the votes or something, or are we just gonna throw out names randomly until the topic dies and is forgotten? Personally, I think this should be an official poll or something as it is a good idea. Oh and I vote for Roddy, as he had a great showing this year between Energon, Classics, KP, Tits, comics AND the re-released masterpiece film. I got a feeling we'll be seeing him in an official Masterpiece version real soon on top of all that.
As for this criteria, I would have to go with the masses and say Primus. As for my fav toy from the year, Classics Bumblebee.
