Having received my Masterpiece Rodimus Prime ver. 2 in the mail this week, I had two things I wanted to verify about the figure very quickly. The first was if the quality control is up to standard this time - and I'm pleased to say he holds together quite well - and the second is if the trailer is really worth the extra expense. After playing around with it for a while, I can safely reply with a resounding "YES!" Even though Masterpiece figures are clearly meant to be elaborate collector's items, I found that the way the trailer splits open and the turret pops up to be very similar to the G1 trailers. That's something that reminded me that this is ultimately a toy and should be treated as such. It's simple and fun to use, and it gives Rodimus Prime a sort of pedestal on which to pose him. I can't imagine Roddy without it. Of course, there are those who dismiss the trailer as just a "big, plastic box" and opt for the cheaper Hasbro release. That made me think about what your feelings are on trailers in general. They seem to be a staple of Transformers commanders, but they're often ignored as just a needless expense. Some fans only go for trailers that transform into a power armour, but I find that even battle station trailers like Scourge and Thunder Clash to be essential to the characters. What do you think about trailers?
I have a trailer fetish since I do jump for versions of a figure that has the trailer vs those that don't (barring dramatic differences, like the US vs Takara MP Rodimus, that make both worthwhile), even though it's not very logical since most trailers end up sitting on the floor in my closet since I have no room to display them with their "owners" currently.
I absolutely LOVE trailers like what Cyberverse Megatron and Optimus have, where they have several uses for their respective truck-bots, or DotM Megatron or G1 Motermaster where the trailer is actually part of the robot mode. But if the trailer just... opens, that's of no interest to me.
I have a draw full of Trailer I don't use.. but I still plan to buy that KO Dark of the Moon Voyager one and will buy the Hasbro Deluxe + Trailer in 2012. Not bought a Takara Rodimus I might eventually get around to it but I'm not really a fan of MP toys at all ; same reason I've not even opened my Optimus or bought Megatron at all Grimlocks Ok though as he's not quite so over scale as the others. I don't really need one off display pieces - any more than I get much use from Supreme Cheetor or any huge Movie Bumblebee toy Hasbro insist on making so many of.
I like trailers if they're able to combine with, or otherwise form armor for, the figure in robot mode. The combined modes are fairly easy to display and don't take up that much more room compared to just the basic robot mode alone. I don't like trailers when they just turn into a battlestation or repair platform or whatever, since I don't have room to display things opened up like that and so they just end up in my spare parts bin. In those cases, I definitely prefer the less expensive, trailer-free, Hasbro releases.
I love them. I have one of my G1 Optimus' and MP-04 half-opened on display (they actually make great display stands for other figures), and both of my MP-9 trailers fully open on display. When it comes down in price a little, I may get the DotM Ultimate OP, too
I love trailers as part of a display or to just make the character feel complete. I think they become easier to dismiss as a simple box as the price goes up in relation to the figure alone.
i need a trailer for my classics voyager and my RotF voyager Prime figures. i like my vehicles to look "whole".
yeah the Ko trailer is out I just have a few other things on the list before I buy it like a Clear Protector Armour or the headmaster fakes.
I like 'em. They complete the figure and the character, plus they do make a great display stand. I use G1 Prime's trailer as a stand for some minibots.
