"Trailbreaker: When All Hell's Breaking Loose"

A little sumpin'-sumpin' for all my fellow non-BotCon-bound peeps tonight...

Trailbreaker was one of my very first Transformers, and one whose personality I always identified with a little. I figured it was high time I did a pic of him. (For any zefrank fans out there, I think he's showing us his Power Move.)

    Comments, crits?

I absolutely love this. One of my favorite things about G1 was the surrealistic painting style of the box art, and you captured every bit of my nostalgia there. Nice work :thumb

There is so much going on in this picture. Center to it though, is the one single character who has his wits about him. I can see him straining to keep his concentration and strength on the task at hand. He may be straining with the effort, but he portrays a sense of calm and fearlessness.

    It's fantastic! Go TB!

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I appreciate them all.
Thank you! If anything, I think it feels a bit like the old Big Looker storybooks. When I was at my folks' place digging up my Trailbreaker toy, I also found some of those old books. One of them was illustrated by Earl Norem... and within a few days, I coincidentally stumbled on this gallery of his He-Man work. I wouldn't be surprised if my brain was taking cues from that while I drew this.

I'm really glad that came across; when I came up with the idea, I wanted to convey the idea of a bubble of uncanny stillness protected from chaos. One of my initial sketches was a bird's-eye view that instantly appealed to me as a more dynamic action shot, but I thought it would lose some of the vital contrast. Likewise, I was tempted to make the humans a little more panicked and off-balance, but I think they're a few moments past that reaction. Now they're more just stupefied.

Thanks! And no resistance necessary - I'm judging this pic's success entirely by how many people get the song stuck in their heads.
