I just bought this set yesterday at a Toys R Us Express store located inside the Manhattan Mall, so there must be a few sets still floating around out there.

Yeah, such are their fates on retail shelves in Asian countries. :p

I've said it previously on this same thread & I'll say it again:

If TRU continues to try marketing these at close to USD $150 (both Taiwan & Singapore), I'm sorry to say that dusts so thick would start forming on those.

The TRU in Totowa, NJ, on route 46 had three yesterday afternoon.

    Fyi.

I like the set, but I'm really wondering why the fuck they went and remolded Sixshot's head for the prototype and then just backtracked on it for the regular retail release. How hard was it to make that new piece for Quickswitch so he'd look at least closer to his G1 counterpart.

Did we ever actually see it molded in plastic? I thought the helmet was only different in the renders, and the early prototype shown off had the original Sixshot helmet (which everyone assumed was just because it was a prototype).

Is the back of the box just CGI artwork or something? Because I could swear that the image on the back is of an actual toy, not some mock-up. TR Chaos On Velocitron Packaging Images - Transformers News - TFW2005

Definitely a different head according to that image.

If I had to hazard a guess, there was a new helmet modeled and rendered for Quickswitch, but was cut from the final toy for costs.

The images are fuzzy so it's hard to tell, but I think those are just renders. Hasbro doesn't usually use actual photos of the toys on the boxes, just renders of them.

This is similar to how TR Rumble and Ravage are shown on their boxes as having Rewind's and Stripes' heads, respectively: they were originally planned to, and so were rendered that way, but when plans for the actual toys changed, Hasbro didn't bother to make new renders.

But it is. You cannot, with a straight face tell me otherwise. Or are these not repaints?
    Tell me what they are.

For the record: 1 straight-up repaint, 1 repaint with a new face, 1 repaint with a new face and minor retooling, and 2 new molds. There's a lot more that's new here than there was in, say, the CW boxsets.

But anyways: wouldn't making 5 all-new molds exclusive to a hard-to-find boxset be much, much worse?

The Blurr mold has been used how many times now? Blurr, Nautica, Brainstorm?
Six shot did not need a repaint.
Optimus did not need a repaint.
Chromedome mold has been used twice- chromedome and that other guy with the whiter paint scheme.
Who cares if theyre different heads when its the same body/transformation.
Seriously, all these reuses of the same mold are lazy. It is an emberassment for a franchise as imaginative as the transformers.
