I understand what you are saying, (perhaps I should have been more specific), however my original point about Target and Wal-Mart still stands.

Agreed. Sorry about being pedantic. It's a tendency I have, which isn't made better by so much misinformation being spread online.

Billionaire CEO behind Bratz makes his bid for Toys 'R' US

TL;DR: The CEO of the company that made Bratz is putting up a billion of his own dollars to buy the 200 most profitable US TRU locations and pretty much all the Canadian ones. He wants to preserve TRU not only as a cultural institution (clearly a major motivation of his) but also to keep the toy market on the whole from suffering a crippling long-term blow with no 'big box' store to showcase their most ambitious goods and exclusives.

Not yet. I'm hoping at least 1 or 2 of the Sacramento locations are on it though... all 4 of them survived the initial waves of closures so I'm hoping we got at least one of the really high performers.

It would be nice if Oklahoma were able to keep at least one in the state. I haven't checked in a while, but the ones in Norman and by Crossroads mall (OKC) are probably gone now (both were on the "first closings" list). The one out by Quail Springs might have a small shot at surviving since Target and Best Buy are literally right across the street (and there is a McDonalds on the same lot right beside TRU) so there is a decent amount of traffic in the area (it actually gets miserable during "busy" hours but the area has almost everything else within a few mile radius, Walmart/Sams and the proposed Costco that may someday happen).

Hopefully the one in Savannah gets saved... it seems to be the only one in southeast Georgia, which is a good sign I guess.

Yes, it is Larian. This story was posted to CNN 6 hours ago so it is an update. Larian made a formal offer of $675 million for more than 200 TRU stores in the US and $215 for almost all of the 80 TRU stores in Canada. He is using money from his pocket, financing from banks and additional investors. The people who contributed to the GoFundMe campaign are getting their money back, none of the funds pledged will be tapped as part of the formal offer. There, I read the story for you.

I will never insult Bratz again if that guy somehow pulls this off.

LOL cuties however are still on the market for mocking.

200 most profitable.....so that means New York and California get to keep theirs, and everyone else in between gets screwed.

Not necessarily. I read that the bid will include the majority of U.S. side-by-sides.... but take that with a grain of salt.

200 US stores? That's 4 stores per state if decided evenly, which won't be the case of course. Hopefully, assuming this deal should happen, TRU would live on. And if the company is re-structured right, we would seen 200 stores grow to 300, 400, 500+ in due time. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I just wanted to point out the possibilities here. :)

Not necessarily. While they will certainly get to keep a fair amount in those two states, high rents and high taxes will also play into the equation of those two states.

They're also among the richest states.

Too bad there's no way for us to see the distribution of "TRU prices are eleventy billion times higher than Walmart" posters. I don't expect to keep any of the local stores even if a rescue succeeds. No collector market in central PA. Lots of Ollies and abandoned malls though.
