Hey. The Search function is currently down, otherwise I would have. So let's not get started with it.

    Anyway.

So my girlfriend was recently diagnosed with asthma, and leaving the window open (with a screen) at night isn't an option anymore. For the past couple weeks we've been using a fan and a humidifier at night.

Now, not that I think or care that my collection will be worth anything in 30 years, but I'd like to keep it nice for the time being. So does a humidifier in the room cause noticeable damage to chrome specifically, to anyone's knowledge? And I mean near future, couple months to 2 or 3 years time. The main chunk of my collection is Henkei, and I plan on getting parts of United figures custom chromed as well.

Well, I did a google search for humidifiers and effects on chrome and only came up with search results having to do with guitars:

    Humidity and your Acoustic Guitar

Don't know if this would help or not....

    Q,

I believe the with Henkei your fine but if the CHROME was painted on with a thick coat, it might be a problem.

Remember in HS, where if you introduce moisture to plastic, it starts to warp and the paint starts to peel or crumble off. Now im not saying this would happen you need to have a considerable about of moisture for this happen. just my input

Pins and screws will corrode faster, chrome may flake depending on how it was mixed. If the humidity gets too high, you can face sticker damage or discoloration. Speaking from experience.

Well for what it's worth, my mom was saying something about newer kinds that aren't as bad for making everything wet as fuck, but increased humidity is still increased humidity, and I still wouldn't leave things out in the open, especially close to the machine.

Glass cases will be your friend, and so will keeping as few figures exposed in your bedroom as possible, especially the valuable ones.

I have asthma myself and I had a humidifier myself as a child and I can tell you, it's useless. Best thing is cleaning the rooms regularly, have a special matress and special pillows and stuff. And use regular medication.

One big disadvantage of humidifiers is, when you don't clean them often, you spread fungi spores in your room and get much sicker than asthma already made you. But still when you clean them often, the chance is big it gathers some kind of bacteria.

Humidifiers are horrible for toys, worse for electronics, and bad for yourself. I have allergies/asthma myself, and humidifiers make it far worse.

You want to visit an asthma/allergist specialist, get your GF tested for everything, and get on medication. ONLY medication will be of use, and ONLY medication will help control asthma/allergies and help keep your GF healthy.

If your GF needs help clearing up stuff from her lungs/throat, and she can't use an inhaler/medicine just yet, give her hot liquids. Hot tea, broth, that sort of thing. That helps to break up stuff and clear you out.

But medicine, not humidifiers, is your best bet.

Damn, with all the Drs on this thread you would think they would be in surgery instead of dispensing medical advice to bloggers on a Transformers site.

Ask your Dr or reseach it yourself. The rest of you get to surgery. :)

People know something I don't because they had to live with that problem! Let's me a jerk to them, that'll make me liked 35 posts in!

And perhaps reading is boring to you, but most of us said "see your doctor" in one way or another anyway.

Would if I could, but we're renting a room from her brother and the townhouse is full. Only real personal space I have is our bedroom and a corner of the garage where I do my customs.
