Toyota recalls 2.3M US vehicles to fix gas pedals - Yahoo! News

I knew that the floor mats wasn't the issue. No floor mat has a weight, or can create, the necessary force to floor the accelerator. I wasn't sucking the sack. :D

That's what I was saying from day one. It's not only toyota that has this problem, its any car that has a fly-by-wire throttle, pretty much any car made in the last 10 years. Occasionaly, it does happen but toyota is taking the stick for this. Most likely since they blamed it on the floor mats in the first place, but there was an accident in Pittsburgh not too long ago where the car didn't have floor mats. It just took toyota until now to take action.

I remember a recall for the Ford Expedition, as my mom used to drive a '97 model, but when we took it to the dealership they claim they didn't have the parts necessary to fix whatever the problem was that made Ford recall that vehicle. Needless to say, that pissed my parents off and we eventually got rid of the Expedition and get my mom a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

That had to have been... what... back in 2005 or within that particular time frame.

The Ford recall I was remembering had something to do with a particular part in the steering or transmission that sparked fires or something. I don't remember hearing anything about the tire controversy.

Maybe the floor mats weren't responsible in this case, but it can happen. In fact, it happened to me several times for the clutch pedal to get stuck on a floor mat.

There was definitely a throttle pedal issue with a 90's Explorer, it was one of few large SUV's US companies tried to sell over here. Pedal would stick open making the occupants passengers. Pretty much killed any hopes Ford had of them catching on over here. That, and it being rubbish.

Stuff like this happens to all car manufacturers, seemingly on the increase, but that's mainly due to incidents being better reported in these internet days, with owner's forums etc.
