    Corolla LE or Civic LX

My gf is deciding on which car to get. I prefer Honda just because i like honda more.
She and I have test drive both and we decided that the Civic give a more feel to drive while the Corolla ride is just too smooth.

    Any suggestions?

    Corollas are virtually indestructible.

i agree that that toyota in general have better build compared to the honda, but civic within honda is a premium model, while corolla doesnt get the same attention.

a corolla is a safe choice.

I used to work on Honda's....they are well built cars. As long as you take good care of it, it should give you plenty years of good service.

Just follow the scheduled maintenance program and you should be a-o.k.

THATS the thing. you have to keep your honda well maintained. toyotas are beast in comparison. i once went w/o a chk up for my toyota rav4 for almost a year.

FYI ive used several toyotas/hondas over the years. 2 rav4s. 2 civics. currently a honda city (1.5l asian model).

KA, i drove both cars, i do feel civic give you more of a car feel like you actually hear and feel and the road noise how fast you are going. While corolla just go without really showing any sign of how fast you are going.

Civic was my first new car. Never really had any problems with it. I handed it down to my brother and the only problem he had was ... crashing it into the rear of another car.. :(

Choosing between a Honda and a Toyota is like choosing between a beautiful brunette and a beautiful blonde. They're both excellent cars--although I'd be inclined to give the slightest edge to the Civic, for the same reasons I'd give it to the Camry against the Accord. Those are just two flagship cars. But if the Corolla was much cheaper or newer, I might go with that.

    Both are good economical cars.

I would check the insurance, in some places driving a civic is asking for someone to steal your car. Then decide from there. No one really messes with a corolla, civcs though I hear about breaks ins or stolen cars a lot.

But if it's between Toyota and Honda, go Corolla.

And KA's right, the new Camry is nice-lookin'. It's burly.

    Honda >> Toyota

I didn't really keep up on maintenance on my Civic, bought it brand new in 98, I beat the hell out of it, and it still runs like a champ.

My mother's Camry on the other hand...

Civic. Hands down. My wife bought an '06 Civic LX. I've twice rented a Corolla LE during that time. While the Corolla is a decent car for the money, it's just that: decent. The Civic just seems like it's just a much better car for the money. Driving two hours in a Corolla is a much different experience than driving two hours in a Civic. In the Corolla you're just, there driving. With the Civic you really feel like you're more part of the road since the Civic seats a bit lower and you can hear a bit more road noise than the Civic. And even though you hear the road noise more, it's barely perceptible. Also the Civic is much more comfortable on a long drive than the Corolla is. Also the Civic has much better handling than the Corolla.

Some caveats though. Some parts for the Civic still aren't quite available. I had to replace a wiper because the part that locks it in place came apart. Neither Autozone, Napa, or any other place I looked at had a replacement, and even the nearest Honda dealer had to order it because it wasn't in stock. That was for the exterior, though. Most things under the hood are common across most Honda models so you should have no problem finding something like an oil or air filter. Also if back seat room is a consideration, go for the four door. It has bit better leg room than the two door. Those are about the only minor gripes I have.

Anyway I doubt you'd be worried about gas mileage, but the worst I got was about 26mpg in stop and go traffic and the best I was able to get was 44mpg doing a long drive (better than the EPA :D ). Regardless of what you buy, your car will last way longer if you maintain it properly. Even if you do the work yourself.

    BTW, get the Civic!

EDIT: Those reports about broken in Civics tend to be models that around hover around 10 years old. Cheap, abundant spare parts. I had a soldier who drives a 95 Civic that was broken into in the past year. She also wrecked it, but it was cheap to repair, being that parts are everywhere (legally).

A Corolla is a nice drive, but compared with a Civic-that technically speaking is a race car depending the engine- considerations are pointless. While I prefer Toyota's generally- see the Sprinter Trueno, and my current drive a Celica 92- but I say Civic in this case.
