Adding to what was revealed at NYCC, the Feb. 2011 issue of Toyfare includes a 2-pg interview with IDW's Infestation notables Chris Ryall and Tom Waltz.

    Highlights:

    * The story resulted from IDW's editors having a "who would win" discussion.

    * Infestation is "a crossover and one all-inclusive storyline without...legal complexities of combining separate licensed characters."

    * The licensors were "across the board, absolutely supportive." Ryall adds that they were "very encouraging and excited to see something like this happen."

    * The opener for the comic mini-series involves:
"...vampire special operatives from Covert Vampiric Operations...in a life-and-death struggle with zombies at a secret military base, where highly classified experimental testing has been taking place involving trans-dimensional trave. The gateway accidentally opens a most inopportune dimensional door. And, remember, in Zombies vs Robots, even robots can become zombies, so machines are just as vulnerable as humans, adding to the dangers of a zombie plague gone wild."

    * Fans should not fear that this story will "derail the comics they've been enjoying."

    * You won't see "hokey story elements" like Spock meeting Optimus Prime or Snake Eyes riding in the Ecto-1: "The licensed books do not cross over into one another, the characters don't overlap [with one exception from CVO]."

Also included is an exclusive preview of the comic art featuring what appears to be...possibly...

i still love zombies... they were the scariest "monsters" to me when i was a kid. there is a bit of over-saturation with them right now, but if done right i still think they can be interesting. They also don't automatically make everything better. i'm very curious to see how this crossover turns out.

I'd take zombies over vampires anyday.

This is gonna be great. Last time we had Zombies in TF's (Spotlight: Kup) it was fantastic. Sure it was a surreal trip but hey, it led to LSotW.

I only hope IDW gets the license for Twilight next. Think about it: Transformers, GI-Joe, X-Files, Zombies, Bella and Edward, My Little Pony, and Dancing with the Stars! It has IDW written all over it!

Scanning Toyfare's copyrighted content is a big no-no, and will get a thread purged here lickety-split.

My wife got me a subscription to Toyfare for Christmas last year. I hate paying $6 for it otherwise, regardless of how much I enjoy it. So if you wanna see the image, buy the mag.

    And :lolol  at caitlindevi's comment.

I'm not sure why people keep criticising IDW for 'jumping on the zombie bandwagon'. They've had their own zombie franchise for years, and this is just an extension of it across their properties. In fact this makes more sense than most companies use of zombies. I can't wait for this!

I'll add that I'm also excited about the release of Infestation, and I rarely buy comics anymore -- even IDW's TF stuff.

I also don't think zombies are dated at all. The Walking Dead was one of the most popular TV shows of 2010, and Resident Evil: Afterlife was a top grossing film for 2010.

And TFs have lots of history with zombies too:

This is the dumbest crossover ever. Why does IDW still have the license? We got over powered humans taking out Transformers and then Zombies? Really? More proof this company has no idea how to handle this license?

ever read city of fear? that had zombies

what about 'dark awakening'? Pretty much a zombie story there.

Oh and that little show called transformers prime? Thats made zombies a big part of its plot so far.

So why criticise IDW? Its not as if zombies haven't been a part of transformers for years, in fact some of its best stories have been based around them.

    Stop hating.

"This crossover will not derail the comics you've been enjoying"

Bullshit. You can't derail a train wreck.
