    Total Recall (2012) - IMDb

Was talking to my wife for the 1 millionth time about some random scene from the movie and voila...a remake with Colin Farrell?

Did not see that coming, but being a huge fan of Schwarzennegger, I'm a bit on the fence. Glad to see a classic redone, but now I feel old...original was 1990.

If they don't screw with the plot (because there's NOTHING WRONG with the original's plot), there's a GREAT chance this remake might actually be good. The movie needs a visuals upgrade at the very least, because it just doesn't compare to more modern sci-fi movies in that department anymore.

Per an interview with J. Biel, the story is the same just modernized and grounded.

    Meeehhhhhh... We'll see.

The only Schwartzenegger remake I can really see working is the Running Man, as the movie REALLY veered from the novel (by Stephen King, no less!) and it's not really one of his classic movies, anyway.

Total Recall is classic Verhoven, though. This sounds interesting, but I have my doubts as to whether it will be a good film.

Apart from a few hokey effects and rubbery faces (and I don't mean Arnold's) I still greatly enjoy watching the old TR movie. Any remake is going to probably mess with it too much in an attempt to make it it's own and end up crapping it up into another bland effects-fest.

Go remake something that actually needs remaking.

This, and I'm still waiting for a good Conan movie that actually meshes with Howard's vision.

That said I'm interested in this and if the trailers don't look just godaweful I'll see it.

I completely agree. There are too many movies that have been made so recently are being remade. Also, they're remaking classic movies that lots of people from the current generation have seen. If they're going to remake movies, then remake a good movie that didn't earn a lot of money or a movie with a good premise that fell just short of being a classic. I would love to see a Last Starfighter remake. I could tell that this would be a major hit if it happened. The first thirty minutes or so are so similar to the Transformers movies and we all know how well they did commercially. Plus, you could expand this universe quite a bit in sequels.

Funnily emough I just recently watched this again for the first time in around ten years and it still holds up pretty well. But I do agree a remake could add so much to the original premise. Or a sequel at least, with a kid from today's Earth finding he's been subject to the same videogame selection process and meeting an older and now more experienced Alex. Actually I think The Last Starfighter would make a brilliant television show, what with the Hero's Journey thing it has at the heart of it..

I know right. It could easily be the next Star Wars if it's done right.

I will be seeing this movie because Kate Beckinsale is in it. That's the only reason.

I saw it today. It wasn't great but I did like it more than the original. It's got some excellent visuals.
