The Transformers Facebook page is doing character polls. Right now its Dragonstorm vs Topspin, using his appearance from TLK. Further confirmation that the character is indeed Topspin

I have a sneaking suspicion that's what happened too or something along those lines. With the other easter eggs and characters brought in from the first trilogy it seems to me this was supposed to represent topspin and something happened with the head and they didn't have the time or money to remodel a head so they used another head that still belonged to a a wrecker.
If this is indeed what happened it's too bad they couldn't at least color the "ears" blue or give him a mullet or just something, but this was likely not on the top of their to do list.
I always consider volleybot to be his own character, I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure topspin died at the hands, claw, and gunface of lockdown.
The Wreckers are actually Headmasters. Leadfoot was borrowing Topspin's transtector body because its more athletic build was better suited to a game of volleyball.
Nothing was ever made that suggested Topspin was killed by Cemetery Wind, Lockdown, or the TRF. All we have is that one voting poll thing that listed Volleybot as being Topspin. Just with a new head and slightly altered paint job. Which isn’t unprecedented. Just look at the implied explanation for Nitro’s head in his prison dossier.
I did hear someone say that topspins head was not rigged to talk which is why they changed it, but that's all hearsay. and my head topspin grew a beard and shaved his dreads or at least tied them back
OH, that's actual story behind that? Huh... What a strange decision, just have his proper head without moving his mouth then, jeez.
I feel like long hauls head wasn't originally made to talk and they rigged that anyway but his head barely even has a mouth. topspins already has one even if it originally wasn't going to move so it would have been a lot easier for them to just add a couple moving parts
