Hey all, I finished up my masterlist of all US TF's made as of the end of 2007 and this year I thought I'd do something extra. To those of you who have my Cybertronian Index you might have noticed that in the Index part of the book, I numbered the toys with the same name in the order of when they were released. This was done so as to not confuse anyone who read the book as to which toy was which.

Fast forward to today and there have been a LOT of TF's released since that book was. (It contained all US toys prior to Armada.) So I was more than amazed by how the numbers look today and I thought I'd share a few with you all.

So the top 10 most reused names in TF's are... (the S followed by a # means Series)

I don't know, ckhtiger, most of them are affordable. I'd only say about 12 to 15 would be hard to get as they usually make a ton of Bumblebee's and Prime's in any given series.

Do variants such as red/yellow Bumblebee count as a "reuse", though? Technically, they were supposed to be the same product.

Also, if you count Pretender and Legends Bumblebee as separate, you also gotta count those five million movie multi-packs.

Another interesting fact is that as of the end of 2007, there have been 1,738 Tansformers made for the US. That means that if you add up all of the toys in the list above for the top 10, which is 279, it equals about 16% of the total toys made.

I normally count a repaint as a new toy even if it was released within the same series/year. Minor things like diecast vs plastic I don't count because the toy looks mostly the same. And while the Bumblebee/Cliffjumper was most likely an accidental color swap, the G2 Dinobot/Constructicons felt more deliberate.

I'll also count a similar toy like the Pretender/Legend figures as they were significantly different in that the Legends left out the Pretender parts but kept the lable sheets and changed the instructions so that the Shell stickers would fit on the robot. The old G1 gift sets for the combiners were technically different packaging, but they were the same toy. So I don't count the myrid of Movie repacks and exclusives unless there was a noticable change. If there were any big paint varients say like the battle damage on the '08 Bumblebee in the Target 2 pack I'd count it as a repaint. But since the '74 Bumblebee was the same as the regular packed one in the same set, I didn't count it.

I'd also count Movie Longarm in that comes in the Screen Battles pack to be a varient worth counting as not only are the painted details different, but it added a molded driver in the form of Megan Fox.

Some of the reissues are identical to the vintage toys, but since they were sold a great number of years apart from each other, I also count those.

Yup. Trust me when I say it's still alot of toys as I have trouble finding room for them all. Of couse when I add in all of the Japanese/European TF's, the number more than doubles.

And before I sign off to catch some sleep, here are numbers 11 - 26. Why 26? That's because there is an 8 way tie for 10 toys each. This next year ought to break that up a bit tho. So here they are.

    11. CHEETOR (13)
    12. OPTIMUS PRIMAL (13)
    13. SOUNDWAVE (13)
    14. HOT SHOT (12)
    15. RATCHET (12)
    16. THUNDERCRACKER (12)
    17. BONECRUSHER (11)
    18. SNARL (11)
    19. BARRICADE (10)
    20. BLACKOUT (10)
    21. INFERNO (10)
    22. JETFIRE (10)
    23. SCAVENGER (10)
    24. SCOURGE (10)
    25. SIDESWIPE (10)
    26. SKYWARP (10)

Wow, have we got the 2001 chart to compare? Bumblebee looks like a "new entry" since most of his toys are 2007 Movie guys.

Unfortunately, no. I haven't done this since my Index. And yes, the movie really did inflate the numbers so to speak. They'll continue to do so into this year seeing as Ironhide alone has at least 5 new toys coming. (and just from the movie) A FAB, Legend, Cyber Slammer, the Blue Voyager, and the Premium Voyager.

Well, how about Movie Legends Jazz? (and why do you people keep calling them "Legends of Cybertron"? That name was only used for characters from the Cybertron series; the Classics and Movie toys were just called "Legends Class")

Single pack and two-pack with Bonecrusher come in different packaging, and they do sport minor, albeit noticeable deco differences. If anything, the differently-colored windshield and painted vs. unpainted front grille/robot mode chest are noticeable.

I do count him (since he was even a different shade of grey from the original) but since Hasbro has borken up the movie line into two series (the All Spark Battles being series 2) and in as much started the second series with 2008, I just didn't add any series two to the list. One could argue that they came out in December '07 and should be counted, but I don't count one or two weeks at the tail end of a year as most places won't have the toys on the shelves untill a couple of weeks into the new year.

I could type up my whole list here, but I already have my checklist posted in the Gallery under the Name Cybertronian Checklist. You can see from that how I count everything up from there. The list ends at just before the movie but I will be updating it soon as I hit the list about every 6 months.

As to why Legends of Cybertron? Bad habit I guess. I've just allways listed them that way. But I'll be going back thru my list as I said and will likely change that to just Legends since that appears to be the new classification for the Mini price point toys. (not to be confused with Mini-con which are Micros)

    NOTE:
I also have my lists broken down by size/price points which I developed for my Index. I called it the Beast Wars scale as most of it was defined by the clearly stated price points at that time. It went like this...

    Micro - (Micromasters, Mini-cons)
    Mini - (Mini-Cassettes, Spychangers, Legends)
Basic - (the smallest of the BW toys, called Scouts today)
Deluxe - (the G1 Cars, Big carded BW toys. Called Super-cons in Armada)
Mega - (Small boxed toys. Called Maxi-cons in Armada, now called Voyager)
Ultra - (Medium boxed toys. Called Giga-cons in Armada)
Super - (Large boxed toys. Now called Leader due to Megatron & OP being this size)
Supreme - (This is a big as it get's today. MP Prime fits here along with all of the Planet bots.)
Ultimate - (There has been only one that was so big it could not fit even in the Supreme class, so I gave this special class designation to him... Fortress Maximus.)

Looking at the numbers, (taking away all of the '07's) he still would have been 4th. last year as Prowl (5th this year) would have been 3rd. since his last new toy was in '05.

How does listing Mini-Cons under "Micros" reflect Mini-Con three-packs being sold at the Basic/Deluxe price point (and even shipping as part of the Basic/Scout assortment in Energon and Cybertron) and Mini-Cons being included as gang-molded companions for larger Armada, Energon and Universe toys?

(but then, there's also the question of Basic or Deluxe toys being sold as two-packs in Universe, under the same price point as larger single toys, and other similar cases)
