Interesting... Lion King and at least one of the Toy Story movies would make my list for sure, but I greatly disliked Up and haven't cared for many of the DC or Marvel animated movies.

I'd imagine my list would include mostly classic Disney stuff.

    Oh, Trans...you so crazy.

I'll have to think this one over in order to rank them.

But "The Iron Giant" definitely takes the #1 spot for me.

Patlabor 2, followed by the first, DYRL and Jin-Roh in no particular order.

Mask of the Phantasm is probably the only western film that would crack my top 10 if I bothered to sit down and think about it.

Same here, I've watched way too many great animated films since my childhood and up to this day to pick just ten.

However there are a lot of films already listed, like classic Disney and Studio Ghibli stuff, that I would definitely consider top ten material as well.

As an animation fan and critic I feel there's a distinction to be made between what I believe to be the overall top 10 best animated films, and my top 10 favorites. So I'm going with favorites, which for me means ones that I've watched so many times I've lost count.

    1. The Iron Giant (1999)
    2. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
    3. Transformers: The Movie (1986)
    4. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
    5. Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (2000) -- I like both equally
    6. Akira (1988)
    7. The Incredibles (2004)
    8. Chicken Run (2000)
    9. The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
    10. Robin Hood (1973)

    Honorable mentions:

    Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
    Up (2009)
    Lady & The Tramp (1955)
    Rescuers Down Under (1990)
    The Little Mermaid (1989)
    Ratatouille (2007)
    The Hobbit (1977)
The Return of the King (1980)
    Monsters Inc (2001)
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)

You'll likely note that my list is comedy-heavy -- it's just what I prefer. And I'll freely admit there are better-quality animated films I would rank higher, but these are my favorites. Also, there are Miyazaki films I think are visual marvels with great stories and characters, but overall they tend to be a little surreal and ethereal so they've just never become favorites. But I love watching them.

Oh, and just for kicks...I found a ranked list of my favorite animated movies from 1999. It's interesting to see how my tastes have changed since then. I think this was supposed to have been a personal top 20 list, although I don't recall why I stopped at 18.

    1. The Iron Giant (1999)
    2. The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
    3. Chicken Run (2000)
    4. Beauty & The Beast (1991)
    5. Robin Hood (1973)
    6. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
    7. Toy Story 2 (2000)
    8. Alice In Wonderland (1951)
    9. Toy Story (1995)
    10. The Hobbit (1978)
    11. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)
    12. Transformers: The Movie (1986)
    13. Lady & The Tramp (1955)
    14. Anastasia (1997)
    15. Rescuers Down Under (1990)
    16. Shrek (2001)
    17. The Little Mermaid (1989)
    18. The Lion King (1994)

    No particular order:

    - Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
    - Heavy Metal
    - Beavis and Butthead Do America
    - The Incredibles
    - South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
    - Spirited Away
    - Up
    - Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
    - Princess Mononoke
    - Perfect Blue

    Honourable Mentions:

    - Toy Story
    - Wall-E - Beautiful animation and interesting characters, but so preachy that I just can't put it in my top 10.
    - Transformers The Movie (1986) - I still enjoy watching it, but it has too many serious flaws.

    1) Toy Story - Not only easily the greatest animated film ever, one of the greatest films ever. In my opinion, of course.
    2) Up - An absolutely beautiful film which really deserved that BP Oscar nomination.
    3) Wall-E - A very fun and absolutely stunningly rendered film.
    4) Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Okay, so it's not completely animated, but the movie was a great tribute to the Golden Age and didn't hold back on its style of humor.
    5) Monsters, Inc. - Fantastic voice work and an entertaining story.
    6) The Incredibles - Great combination of action and storytelling.
    7) Toy Story 2 - I don't think it tops the original like many say, but it still is a damn fine movie.
    8) The Lion King - Do I even need to explain?
    9) Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker - Extremely well done, the ten minute flashback scene is one of the greatest scenes in all of Batman's history, in my opinion.
    10) Spirited Away - Great film, low because I haven't seen it in a while.

In short, if it's Pixar, sign me up.
