Man, I'd love to, but I'm in Killzone, then Reistance comes out next week and so does RE4. I might be a late bloomer on this one, but I will get it eventually. The demo kicked ass IMO

I still say that movie is awsome despite all the innuendo, the F-14's is what made that movie :D

Well, I'm a simpleton and like the movie because it's got fighter jets and explosions. Other's would refuse to see it because Tom Cruse and Val Kilmer both dont wear shirts in a scene.

That and the whole damn film is thinly veiled homo-eroticism.

So, I got the game and played the shit out it last night. I don't know what mission I'm on but I'm guessing I'm already half way through the campaign. My "level" is 17 or 18, out of 40, and I already have lots of fighters to control, from the Mig-21 to the YF-12 (the SR-71 interceptor prototype), and I got me a choise of different F-14 (Tomcat and Bombcat etc...) variants and F-15's and F/A-18s. I still havent gotten any generation 5 fighters like the F-22 or the Su-47.

Sorry if none of that made any sense, but basically, I've got lots of planes to fly with more to come. I also can fly that the fighter that Gen.1 Starscream transformed into. :D

I have to admit that for this game being branded as a "Tom Clancy" game, this one seems to be of their less quality games. The graphics are sharp but some effects are kind of lame, like machine gun fire. Also when you fly close to the ground and see the trees, they're 2D sprites that looked like they belong to DOOM. The game's story isn't presented as dramatic as their other games, like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, but thats an shooter and maybe I've been spoiled by other flying games like Wing Commander IV in it's story and sequence of events.

The combat is swell though. I have to give a heads up about this though, this game is not a simulator in a least bit, anyone expecting a realistic air combat experience on their consoles is going to be dissapointed. This game also isnt another version of Ace Combat, just with the Tom Clancy brand on it. HAWX adds in features that make the game stand on it's own, primarily the two flight modes "Assistance on" and "assistance off".

I've explained these before, but have no problem explaining them again incase anyone missed it. "Assistance On" lets you control your aircraft like how you normally would, with roll, pitch, yaw and power. You can fly your aircraft in the 3rd persion, 1st person without the Heads-Up-Display (HUD) or with the HUD. Assistance On also provides some electronic support. Assistance On lets you use the "Enhanced Reality System" (ERS), boy some extreme names huh, HAWX.... Enhanced Reality... etc... Annnnyways. The ERS is an option that calculates a flight path for you to take to intercept a target, or dodge a missile. The ERS plots a course and you fly through these gates that the ERS calculates. More veteran pilots may not even bother using it, but I found it useful from time to time, like when a enemy tank is in the middle of a city using buildings as cover.

When you switch to "Assistance off" the safeties are turned off and the fighter can go to it's maxium performance. You'll be able to do some intense maneuvers, like being to fly in one direction and basically drift you fighter to shoot down an enemy that's at your side. I was able to drift backwards a few times. Assistance off is also very dangerous, when you pull off these intense maneuvers, you'll slow down and possibly stall and then fall to the ground. I give HAWX a thumbs up to this detail, most other air combat games I played, a stall only occurs when you reach a certain hight and then you drop for a second. HAWX is more realistic in this sense when compared to most other arcade style flight games. Assistance Off also zooms the camera further back than normal and is a forced 3rd person view that focuses on both your target and your own plane. Assistance Off is like controlling a remote controlled plane which can be confusing and fusturating to some sense they have no refence in which way they're facing and getting a machine gun kill is much more difficult in "assitance off".

One thing that I appreciate in every Tom Clancy game I have played is that I have to think. HAWX isnt a exception. You have 2 wingmen that you can tell to attack targets or cover, basic stuff, but what HAWX makes you think about during the battle of what targets have to be your priority instead of just shooting everything you see. You also need to intercept an enemy's flight path, instead is just heading at where the enemy is at, you loose valuable time doing that and the enemy fighters or bombers may have done the damage they needed to do.

The stages are very objective driven too. You'll be giving support to some ground force or bombers and you'll need take down enemy interceptors before they reach their target. The targets you escort/protect can take a bit of damage and will try to defend themselves as best they can, but it's up to you to protect. They'll even destroy their attackers, but you can't rely on that to win the fight. Not every mission is escort/protect, you'll be tasked with destroying facilties or a certain number or fighters. One mission is just a shit storm and there is no real objective other than to survive.

Finished the campaign to HAWX already on the hardest difficulty! :D

I took a casualty though.... My Ace Edge flight stick's rudder has somthing wrong with it. I think a spring popped loose and now the thing doesnt reset, I have to balance it in if I dont want make the thing tilt sideways. I'll take it apart later to find out what's going on.

Anywho.... While HAWX may not be the greatest Tom Clancy title I've played, I did have fun with it and the multiplayer is decent, too bad it only has Team Deathmatch though. I hope Ubisoft expands more on HAWX and maybe get a sequel that improves on the game. The Co-op is great though, the more players that join the more challangeling the mission is!

I'm now at level 25 and unlocked plenty of stuff. I've got the F-22 Raptor and all 3 versions of the F-14 Tomcat (Tomcat, Bombcat, Super Tomcat).

Played the demo, think the 'no assistance mode' is a bit daft but it was fun, shall look out for it.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have a question.

I bought a new gfx card for my PC and H.A.W.X was included in the bundle. I have some difficulties with the controls. I first tried playing it with keyboard only. I have a Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 5000. For some reason when I play, missiles will launch, flares will deploy, and the plane will start spinning to the left without me touching the controls. I also have a Sweex USB flight stick that works like a charm with basically any game, but not with H.A.W.X. I still get the same problems, with the added problem that 75% of the time I can't pitch to the right, making flying nigh on impossible :/ I thought it was a USB controller problem so I uninstalled all of them, rebooted, and Windows reinstalled all of them automatically and they all check out fine. Also downloaded the latest IntelliPoint and IntelliType drivers, and still no difference. Could it be a problem with the wireless desktop sysem? I have an old wired keyboard around here somewhere. Might give it a try to see if it helps. Has any of you encountered the same problem and did you solve it?

There's some pretty basic stuff that I can recommend checking out. As far as your joystick (her her :p ) goes have you calibrated it? You can usually do that by going to your control panel and then select game controllers.

I've played the game on the 360 so I wouldnt know what other options you could check out. In my experience though when I had awkward controls like that on my other PC sims, I've found out that like my mouse or some other device is active in the game as well. Also what other things are on your stick, like does it have a Z-axis and throttle controls? Some times those things when they arnt binded to their proper controls do funky things.

Well, as I said, I played the game with keyboard only at first, with no joystick connected at all, and still got the same issues, so it's clearly not the joystick that's the problem here.

I did some looking around and found a fello with a similar issue. This one guy suggest this....

After that I noticed the guy who had no problem didnt reply back so maybe that took care of it.

Here is the link of the form dicussion.
    HELP:Tom Clancy's HAWX!! - Vista Forums

Edit: I looked around some more and came across another guy with the same problem.
    http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2541006247/m/4311095767

The guy was suggested to update to 1.02 (Im guessing HAWX ver 1.02) and the dude with the problem said it was fixed. I suggest doing the update first before going through the complex stuff.

Thanks, but I already reinstalled and updated to v. 1.02... I disconnected my wireless keyboard and plugged in an old-fashioned one instead. The problem is still there, but slightly less Now I can play the game at least :)
