I do see where you're coming from, as many of Optimus' kills seem to be "destroy first, ask questions later", but those seem to be mostly cannon fodder Decepticons (as evident even in TT:TM, and DotM's Optimus flying in and slicing through an army of 'Cons, Demolishor). But when it comes to Sentinel, I definitely do not see it that way. Optimus obviously thought very highly of Sentinel, and his betrayal was a substantial blow to Optimus, that's why it took him so long to come to terms with the betrayal. Optimus learns of Sentinel's heel-turning, and what does Optimus do? Does he raise his torch and pitchfork to find and kill Sentinel immediately? No. Does he race off in a cloud of anger to shoot Sentinel in the face? Not yet. He's almost catatonic with grief and shock. He searches for Sentinel, looking for him. He questions Sentinel. Tries to talk it out. He asks why it had to come to this. Optimus tries to convince Sentinel that it's not the only way, but Sentinel won't have any of it. And even after the "You're lucky I didn't kill you. In time, you'll see"-line, Optimus doesn't charge after Sentinel. He lets him leave, thinking that maybe, just maybe, there's still hope. He's - at that point - actively looking for some loophole to give Sentinel some slack. Then after viewing the travesty of what Sentinel/Megatron/the Decepticons had done to Earth/Chicago, Optimus realizes that Sentinel must be stopped. No matter the cost. He goes after him, engaging in battle. And then, he delivers the final blow, in order to save 6 billion people from enslavement.

As for Megatron? Okay, that one was more of a "I'm tired of dealing with you, Megatron, this is over!"-attack. It was sort of 'enough is enough'. At this point in the trilogy, I think a lot of people just wanted Optimus to be done with Megatron. But still, Optimus totally had the opportunity to battle Megatron at the National Mall, but didn't (mostly because he was too preoccupied with Sentinel).

The only time Optimus actively seeks out to stop the enemy dead in their tracks is when push has come to shove, and it's go-time. No more negotiating, no more "give peace a chance". Now or never. Kill some 'Cons, or see his new home enslaved.

That's how I see it.

You're both correct.

Megatron was pissed off that he was held prisoner by the humans for decades AND he sees humans as lower life forms that he doesn't need to hold any regard for.
