Updated May 15th 2017 with final bot mode photos and weapons!

Who needs Ratchet when you can fix your mortal wounds simply by scanning a new mode???

    PicsArt_05-13-02.52.26.jpg

    Let's roll!

    PicsArt_05-06-07.24.16.jpg

I've been gone a long time and just recently returned to the forums about a week or two ago.

    PicsArt_05-15-11.58.04.jpg

I got my hands on this figure from The Chosen Prime a couple of weeks ago with the sole intention of repainting him, and along the way I decided to do some mods!

    downloadfile-1.jpg

    Made the smokestacks "transformable"!
After separating the tops off, I then attached them to the back of the truck's roof.

    PicsArt_05-07-08.56.57.jpg

The shield can be attached to his back via a magnet installed into the roof, and a metal pin that I plugged into the 5mm peg of the shield.

    20170510_162224.jpg

I also added the gun section to his shield.

    PicsArt_05-06-07.50.04.jpg

Here, you can see that his right arm now has a magnetic wrist joint for reasons shown in the photo.

    PicsArt_05-14-04.41.25.jpg

Also, I removed the "rope/hose" geometries from his thighs because when you twist his leg at the thigh swivel those things would visually separate which was very distracting. So, I replaced them with real red insulated wires!

    PicsArt_05-06-08.05.24.jpg

The weapons are as equally detailed as the figure itself.

I did sharpen the edges of the sword using a metal file and 320 grit sandpaper.

    20170519_170222.jpg

Then, I decided that the in-package sword is too short and better suited to a deluxe figure. This guy needs a sword worthy of his class! So, I scanned the leader class sword and changed its dimensions so that the blade is as long as his legs and the handle stays at 5mm or .200". As previously done to the accompanying sword, I sharpened the blade to a finer edge and point before painting it.

    PicsArt_05-14-04.29.17.jpg

Here's a collage of all the mods and bot paint apps!

    PicsArt_05-20-12.41.19.jpg

    Truck mode, baby!

    Paint Applications:

All I used were Testors enamel paints, a fine tipped paint brush, q-tips and several toothpicks (specifically for hand-drawing the flames and other minute detailing) to accomplish all the bot parts.

Gloss Red & Gloss Dark Blue - for the flame patterns

Stoplight Metallic Red - brake lights

Flat Black & Gloss Black - for the truck kibble on inside of his lower legs

1144 Gold, Flat Steel, Metallic Silver, Flat Gun Metal & Brass - all exposed metal parts

Graphite Metallic - dry brushed light and heavy to give the dirty appearance and bring out the depth of the mold's details

In 2 instances, I used spray paint:

    - the shield was given a flat black base using a spray can
    - the back section of the cab was spray painted steel

Now... on to the vanity shoot!

    20170522_121059.jpg

Reminiscent of his iconic poster from Age of Extinction during his face off with Grimlock.

    20170524_123059.jpg

Great figure for capturing those "stoic" moments as well!

    20170515_162756.jpg

Or ones where he's ready and off to battle!

    20170515_161400.jpg

Or practicing his dual-sword guarding stances.

    20170515_162910.jpg

Or reverse grip & behind the back swiping and parrying techniques!

    20170515_162842.jpg

He is very handy with his weapons!

    20170515_163003.jpg
    20170526_100400.jpg

Thank you very much for checking out my work. Comments and critiques are welcomed!

    PicsArt_05-05-01.55.00_1494021822892.jpg

    Let them fight!

Lastly... here's a factory vs custom final photo for comparison.

Here are several WIP photos of his "factory to custom" transformation. 20170414_121228_1492197250188.jpeg 20170418_163045_1492558373371.jpeg

Top notch! This is a great mold and your paint really makes the details pop. I imagine Takara's will look a lot closer to yours than Hasbro's. Any plans to mod the backpack to compress anymore, that's really the only thing that needs to be addressed on this mold.

I did do a minor modification but not to compress it any further.

What I did do is drill a hole into the roof and plug it with a small round magnet. Then inserted a metal pin into the handle of the shield...

    That sir is incredible!

Most people who try the flames by hand tend to make a mess. (I can't tell you how many otherwise great Prime customs I've seen with really bad flames) You've baiscally nailed it (by hand apparently). That's incredible!

Thank you for checking it out!

Yeah the flames definitely take a lot of patience and steady hands!

A little but not that much different than Hasbro. Chest flames on TT version but that's the biggest difference from the pic I saw.

Thank you, now paint one up too and show is how it's all done!

Yes, I bought it with the intention of painting it from head to toe! It's eye candy to me hahaha!

Cheers to you and the work you've done with adding those decals and that smooth application of your paints!

Thank you buddy! Are you going to repaint one as well?

I got started on one. But I'm thinking I might do some modifications before I get him fully painted.

Wwweeeellll.... that, my friend, feels like a schallenge of sorts. However, if have to find a way to stencil or l out the flames.. hmmmm.. my curiosity is piqued by the potential process.

Those forearms really bring out the detail. Love this. I like the shield storage as well. I wonder if you needed to drill a hole to keep the shield there? If you glued a rare earth magnet under the hood it probably would have been enough strength to hold the shield there.

What blue color did you use?

    Great job.

What brand and color paints did you use. They are such a good match!

    Looking forward to it!

    Doooo iiiiiiit.

    Thank you!

Hmmm, now you make me wonder if there is room [in truck mode] to create his rocket boot calves using the backside of the grill parts.

Thank you. I thought about doing that at first and tried that. I wasn't satisfied with the strength of the connection though.

Then I thought why not just drill a 5mm hole, but I didn't like the idea of having an open hole in the roof. So I opted for any exposed magnet that I'll paint blue when I repaint the truck mode.

I used Testors gloss dark blue
