Honestly imo, they should've ended the series at DOTM, then they reboot the franchise and actually get good directors and writers.

Yeah people love Jackman as Wolverine, but how big a hit was 2013's The Wolverine? Yeah the promotion for Deadpool was great but the movie wouldn't have done the repeat business it did had it been a sh#t movie. You really think an R-rated film about a rather obscure comicbook character to the general public would've done 350 + million had the buzz not been unbelievably positive after the film was released?

The box office of the previous TF films shows there was clear interest in the series but over the past few years, a trend started where reviews played a big factor in how movies would do at the B.O and Paramount and Bay failed to realize that. If they put out a movie that gets a decent reception, then problem solved. A subpar installment critically and financially doesn't spell doom for a franchise. The X-Men franchise has had to rebound from a their share of subpar installments including last year's Apocalypse which got followed up by Logan which was a huge hit.

Just look at how WW has performed compared to BVS.

The only thing that rights the ship is a complete reboot.

I'll add that the period of time when reviews didn't matter so much is, if anything, the historic aberration. Back in the old days reviews mattered a lot too, there was just a period in the middle where they lost some of their bite.

I think you could expand the question to where was the point where the idea of critic proof went out the window? The Last Knight was not the only film to do poorly after bad reviews so we may be in a new entertainment era where you can't just plaster Ghost in the Shell, Power Rangers, or Pirates of the Caribbean on a movie poster and expect people to just show up.

It's going to be really interesting to watch the change in China play out as well. At one time the Hollywood movies were all sparkly and new in China so Hollywood could just dump any movie there and expect big returns. But now China doesn't seem like a dumping ground so what will Hollywood do if China isn't always there to save the day?

It was a huge flop as the casualties continue to roll in.

Yeah..starting to be consistently below 200,000 a day and out of the top 12. It'll likely finish in the low 130,000's domestically.

Year to date Dunkirk will pass it this week and Apes might as well, though more likely next week...

Nothing major for August with The Dark Tower and The Hitman's Bodyguard being the only ones I've even seen previews for, but there seems to be a lot of wide releases that will take TF out of even more theaters.

The Box Office Mojo numbers for this weekend are saying $565,000 domestic. Which is 13th place.

Wonder Woman keeps chugging along with $3,540,000 for this weekend.

Wonder Woman is a BEAST...400 mil by the end of the week and may end up still in theaters for another few weeks since theaters keep dropping other movies that are under performing because WW is still filling more seats (and because of the front loading of how much movies cost theaters WW is a LOT more profitable to keep around.)

Looks like 600 mil will be the ceiling. They only major markets left are Japan and Brazil.

I think TLK will end its run by the time The Hitman's Bodyguard comes out in the U.S.

The weekend estimates are that Dunkirk and War for the Planet of the Apes both passed The Last Knight at the total domestic box office this weekend. Which means that The Last Knight drops to 17th place on the yearly domestic box office chart.

These weekend numbers are brutal again...TF5 falls to 20th and got beat by Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which has been out for 7 weeks longer than TF5 and was only in 2/3 as many theaters

On the plus side I don't see it falling too much in the yearly rankings until something big like Kingsmen hits in September

By years end I predict TF5 finishes 24th at BEST after getting knocked down the ranks by

    Kingsmen (9/22)
    My Little Pony (10/6)
    Coco (10/22)
    Thor: Ragnarok (11/3)
    Justice League (11/17)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (12/15)
    Pitch Perfect (12/20)

Japan was the last place for TF5 to debut. For its opening weekend It is down 32% compared to AOEs opening. It got beat financially by Despicable Me 3 which has been out 3 weeks, and got beat in attendance by Despicable Me 3, Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: True Ending and Uchu Sentai Kyu Ranger The Movie.

That doesn't sound like it's doing well at all.

Well it can still reach 600 million so that's better than nothing I guess

$600m worldwide is definitely not a win for this movie.
