TLK made $45 million in its opening weekend, $69 million in its first 5 days and $265 million worldwide. TLK also made $132 million alone in China, so maybe it will finish around $290-$310 million.

$45 mil domestic opening weekend is *rough* considering AoE made that on it's first day. And next week is Despicable M3 so goodbye kids and then it's Spider-Man so goodbye everybody else.

It's had the largest Chinese opening of any TF film, which is good news. As long as it has some legs, it's still gonna finish reasonably strong.

Too bad its already an out-right flop, state side..

And honestly Bay really deserves it this go round. I want it to hit him right in his over-inflated ego and wallet.

The bulk of that was pre-sales. Let's see how it does weekend #2.

Since it seems to not be doing so well, I wonder if this will effect TF6 and the Bumblebee movie. As a fan of the movieverse, i'm actually extremely scared that TF5 could be our last TF movie. With Hollywood nowadays, it wouldn't surprise me if they just cancelled it. :(

I think we'll definitely get at least one more before any cancellations. Bay was on his way out, so there's too much potential (in investors' eyes anyway) for a refresh. I think the performance of TLK does however mean two things:
    • Bay will NOT be back.
    • The box office performance of the next one may very well determine whether we see further films.
What I am not sure on, however, is whether the performance of the Bumblebee Movie will count as "the next one", or whether we'd get another mainline entry even if that one flops. I think if TBM really does extremely poorly it might spell major trouble for the mainline.

Since the next film in the mainline is going to be Unicron... The movie needs a big budget but with this TLK performance budget might be slashed not increased. Despite bays storytelling faults he knows how to stretch a budget. It's just hard to predict how another filmmaker will do with The demands of Unicron, upping the scale Everytime as well as more robot screen time. Remember unlike a superhero movie robots cost money even if they r just talking so this is a major disadvantage Tf has....

Exactly. The Unicron arc they are planning on NEEDS a big budget to work. If the budget gets slashed then the movie is going to suffer horribly. Either Unicron will get vastly shortchanged, or we'll lose a lot of the bot screentime.

I wouldn't bet a shiny penny on Unicron being in the next or any TF movie going forward.

That's what i'm worried about as well. TF has been backed into a corner. I wanna stay optimistic but I just can't get this worried feeling out of my head. Whatever happens, happens though.

Well that's undeniably the direction for tf6. If they don't do it its a massive sign of defeat

It was, sure, but I don't think Paramount expected TLK to tank as hard as it clearly is.

No, it's not, especially when getting to $1b is nowhere near the challenge it used to be.
