I don't know what's going on with Hasbro/Takara with their lack of Jazz "nowadays" (shame on them, btw), but here's my attempt at a TR Jazz made from the Breakaway. I used some stickers from some left over reprolabels I had, got a replacement faceplate from shapeways, and attempted to paint in a few places. I have a spoiler also coming from shapeways as well, and will eventually paint the windows in alt-mode, so this is what I have so far. I actually like the way the black shoulders look in alt-mode, so I'll be keeping those the same. Figured I'd better start doing some customizing since I've been burned by a customizer, soooo....no time like the present.
I like what you did, but it's really a stretch given the source material. I say that without any criticism towards you, as you're working with what you have available, and that's probably the most commendable quality there is in this craft. I know it would be a waste of good decals, but have you considered reshelling him? I'm sure there are plenty of Porsche 935 model kits out there you could hack apart. Worst-case scenario, you learn from a mistake. Best-case scenario, you make something great.
I dunno, I think it works pretty well. You have to look at it as a late-G1 version of Jazz with futuristic detailing.
As I mentioned in your Windcharger thread, I used the CW Deadend figure to create Jazz for my Masquerade team. Similar to what you did with yours, I also used some Reprolabels magic, lol. I took their G1 Jazz and 2010 Classics sticker sets and blended elements of both together to create a G1-esque stylized Jazz alt mode, after painting, of course. For his head, I swapped out an extra 2010 Jazz head for the CW Deadend head, which worked out perfectly since I had originally planned to create a Classics Deadend from the 2010 Jazz mold anyway...and the balljoints/sockets were perfect for both figures! Because of the additional options on the Jazz 2010 sheet, I was able to convert my G2 classics Jazz into "Agent Meister", touch up Asian Exclusive deluxe Wheelie, and still have some left over, along with the G1 label extras, to spruce up the new RiD Jazz, which was super plain. Yet another one to show you eventually, lol. Cool take on your Jazz though, I probably wouldn't have thought about trying that! Keep up the great work! I look forward to seeing more!
Could you Pm me with details/links for the spoiler, please? I am also looking for a front end for the car mode to look a bit like Getaway. The spoiler and/orfront end would be just what I need! If you can't find the front end, just the spoiler would be great, cheers!
For all the boxiness of the mold, with how well you did the paint and labeling, it works really well. Sometimes a person just paints something and it's all splotchy (like when I paint), or it just doesn't work. This works though. Nicely done.
