Snagged this guy from a group purchase with some other dudes for the standard Legends class price of around $12 after tax. The stupid Hasbro rep is a fucking liar. This guy totally could have been released as a normal Legends figure. They really didn't break new ground with this guy, but what they lacked in innovation, they made up for in fun. Fuck Quickswitch, you get Velocitron for Fastlane. Basically everything about this guy is the G1 toy, but with modern arcitulation, and the clusterfuck greebles of Titan's Return. Car mode is the blocky 80's not-F1 car, but now it has a folding chair. Transformation is basically the G1 transformation. The new joints aren't used at all, and are instead purely for the robot mode. He's basically just the original figure with balljoints all over the place. The tan facepaint is nice and helps make it stand out even more. It's nice seeing a colored face too, since the official and all 3rd parties seemed to go for the red face. I feel like he could've used some detailing on the forearms, but all the arm paint budget went to painting the entire fist piece white. It's a stupid move that only Hasbro could dream of. The purpose of that is to save costs of molding the pieces, but it's always annoying seeing this practice, especially once it starts chipping off in a couple months. No rubsigns, instead the chest "car" logo is painted on. It's really dark and it's colored like an old rubsign so it's a bit hard to see. I really dig the color choice though. Accessories are just the removable spoiler. It's pegged on by a 5mm female port, while the male peg is the back of Fastlane's head, so you can do stupid Targetmaster shenanigans. Overall, for the cost/value of this guy, he's one of the best TR figures. There's also a really nice crotch joint so he can do the splits (For Cloudraker's transformation). Compared to other Legends in the TR line, I'd give him a solid 7 Gnaws out of 10. Also, since we're all adults here:
This figure is about what I would expect for a Legends figure. Nothing spectacular, but I did not know the spoiler was on a 5mm peg thereby enabling the figure to be held like a gun. That...changes things.
The toy itself feels more like an upscaled Minicon than a legends class toy, but I can't really fault it for being pretty much an articulated remake of the G1 toy (with some apparent "shared engineering" shenanigans with upcoming 'clone' toys). My only issue with it is I wish they came up with something better for the spoiler swing-arm than to have it hang off the back of the robot's head.
The spoiler could've been some folding panels on the shoulder, and a gun would've been nice to have too. I think they passed on those in order to make it as accurate to the original as possible, for some reason.
If it was accurate to the original, then it would have two guns Fastlane (1987) - Autobot Warrior - www.tfu.info
Excellent. Can I make that my sig? Ah yeah should've specified. The body is basically a 1:1 copy, but accessories are lacking.
Not quite. The spoiler is on a giant stick, which is on the back of his head. Which is kinda worse. Hinders his ability to look side to side along with looking dumb.
Any chance of a photo of Fastlane with his legs folded back as if he were Cloudraker? And a rear view of robot mode plus the underside of the car?
"AAAARGH WHAT AM I? IS THAT MY PENIS?? NO MATTER... NOW YOU DIE!" That was the first thing that came to mind, I swear.
Ta! I can see a hinge on the small of Pounce's back so I'm guessing the same hinge is used for Cloudraker's jet nose
Eh. Don't really feel these. The one case where it would have been acceptable to have Blurr/Brainstorm repaints too.
