    End well this will not.

Just hope it makes at least one full trip before something goes horribly wrong..

And the Australian coast guard keeps all 3 of their boats behind it to pick up survivors :)

While I know almost everything is made in China, I can't help but be amused at the fact this idiotic idea will be manufactured there. "RMS Titanic II: MADE IN CHINA" will be stamped all over it.

Not to mention if it's being built to EXACT specifications, that means it's gonna be coal fired. It might be a fuel situation where oil is in fact cheaper than the alternative.

Seriously, why should this automatically be labeled a bad idea? Because its original counterpart sank means this one will?

Building a replica of the Titanic is not an ignorance to history, running the fucking thing into icebergs is an ignorance to history.

That ship that wrecked a while back because it ran aground? They don't need to bother redesigning it in case it runs aground, they need to make sure that doesn't happen, period - as in, hire a captain who knows not to steer the damn thing in shallow waters.

Exactly. Why is everyone calling this man an idiot? There was nothing wrong with the Titanic itself. It was the folly of man that was it's undoing. The vessel itself was magnificent.

Its not like it is going to be 100% like the original. For the passengers, it might look like the first one but it will have all the modern saftey technology that other ships have.

Not to mention that not too many people know that Titanic was not an "only child", and was the second of three ships. Its [slightly] older sister, the Olympic, was virtually identical to the Titanic, save for it being slightly shorter (until it was modified when the Titanic disaster rewrote the books on being up-to-code). And though Olympic had a few wrecks throughout its career, it met its demise at a scrap yard in the mid-30's due to it being old and outdated.

Very interesting and cool, at least IMO. I'm not sure why so many people are writing this off as blatantly stupid? The Titanic sank due to poor steal, poor decisions, etc. Are we that ignorant where we believe this Titanic II will be built exactly like the original? Read the latest article guys, it lists out the necessary modifications.

    Split's a smart cookie.

    It was unsinkable they said.

Let's not put enough lifeboats they said.

Well, no, it had some pretty serious design flaws. But they wouldn't have become apparent if they hadn't sideswiped an iceberg and we should know better than to include them in the new one so it should all work out!

I would spend the entire trip rearranging deck chairs and giggling incessantly, probably.

Looks like the thread still has some life left in it.

And I read the recent article. While I do agree that the modifications may preven such a thing from re-occurring, there is still that chance it could sink. This is China that is building it, after all. Questionable quality.

As for the original Titanic sinking, there were many factors that led to it sinking. One, the ship's captain never headed the slow down warnings. Two, the ship's designers put too much faith in her. Three, there was no full moon and the ocean was so calm the iceberg was not even seen due to the water not lapping against the base of it.

Just some information for you to digest is all.

The original ship's biggest problems were the internal compartmentalization that was supposed to prevent flooding from spreading, only went as high as the ship's waterline, ('cause, y'know, taking on tons and tons of water isn't going to make her sit lower in the water) and her screw/propeller configuration. Instead of four normal sized screws, she had two normal and one big one between them. It seriously restricted her ability to turn during rapid deceleration.

There also a lot of stupid human tricks that lead up to the collision.

I'm surprised he's having the new one built to the original's dimensions. Isn't that considered kind of small, by modern liner standards? At lest, he's not trying to build another Great Eastern.
