Thanks, I knew I had to be good at something. In the G1 Marvel Comic, Optimus Prime and Megatron were in a...rather stupid...plot to settle their battle by video game. The loser would be blown up by a bomb to the head. Long story short, Optimus thought he cheated by sacrificing innocent game sprites (yes, I said game sprites). Since Optimus felt guilty, he decided that he should be the one to be blown up and thus died.
While I love the comic, the premise MAY be flawed. There are still a few G1 - 84's who have not been redone Cliffjumper as far as I know has not been homaged (although Alt. Windcharger seems to suit him) Huffer hasn't been redone (I like Wedge from the Build Team though,) Gears definatly hasn't been redone. (Armada Smokescreen, with a repaint?)
You're right, these three haven't been directly redone yet; however, they have been reissued recently and in Cliffjumper's case, the name was used again. The Cliffjumper name was used as a mini-con and as a regular Autobot in Energon. He's also been been reissued as a keychain and there is also a black variant. There's also a possibility that Cliffjumper could be redone in as a Classics Bumblebee repaint though there's been no word of that. Huffer was reissued over in Japan by Takara as Drag along with 5 other mini-bots (Bumble [Bumblebee], Warpath, Adams [Cosmos], Gears, and Powerglide). I've also seen people mention that Cybertron Armorhide is a possible homage to Huffer due to the head and alt mode. He also has a gummy eraser-like decoy. Gears was reissued along with Huffer. As far as homages go, I'm not aware of any (direct or indirect) off the top of my head though you're right, Armada Smokescreen's head does look a bit like Gears'. Trailbreaker has only a Japanese convention exclusive reissue sometime back in 2001 but no widespread reissue. Apparently, he was also reissued in Europe in 1991. I'm not aware of any widespread reissues. He also has a gummy eraser-like decoy. When I made the first comic, admittedly, I wasn't aware of the convention exclusive reissue or European reissue. I was going by the waves of reissues of the other '84 Autobots and Decepticons that've been happening for the last 2 to 3 years.
