Well, it looks like those few times I used my credit card online have come back to bite me in the arse. I opened up my statement today to find that it went up amazingly by $1000 and I hadn't used it....curious. A quick look over the bill revealed that apparently someone in California has been having fun going to Home Depot, Rite Aid, a liquor store, the Jack in the Box etc, etc. So I just called my credit card company, had my card frozen, and have set up an investigation into fraud. Now I wait for paperwork, a new card, and hopefully the chance this guy(or gal) will be caught.

Lesson learned here? Never use a card online, it won't end well. Only Paypal from now on, and if they don't take it I guess I don't need it cause I'm NOT gonna have this crap happen again!

Holy crap. That's really bad. Although don't let it turn you off using your card online... for every dodgy dealer there's 10,000 good ones. Just be careful where you use it :)

Is this a true credit card or a bank credit card? If it's a bank card, you're in good hands, as there is a nation wide VISA fraud case going on that involved over 20 different bank (not branches, actual banks) and Feds are involved.

That sucks man. Hope everything gets sorted out as quick as it can.

I've been using my CC online for years and have never once had a problem with fraud.

That happened to me recently. I found out someone had charged about 300 dollars worth of groceries and gas in TX. I'm in MA. After a month or so, I finally got the charges taken off and a new card instated.

This happened to me over the summer. Luckily I am really anal and noticed the charges right away ($25 to Craigslist and $1 to iTunes). I didn't lose anything but got new cards.

Just gotta be careful out there.

    Sorry to hear man

Even if you use your card online with a trusted retailer, someone can still hack your info from their database. I dont like to use mine at all online, even though I did anyway and had my identity stolen through eBay.
    Im still paying for it

    Credit cards are bad period.

I have one that I need to take my limit back down on because it hurts to have it that high and I never use it, but I don't want to get rid of it because its my oldest established credit, important for things like car and house loans.

If you pay it off every month, fine. Otherwise, avoid them like the plague. You are just asking for trouble.

It's not just cause you used the card online, I had it happen with a new card I never used online. The card was for the grocery store so we would get bonus points, apparently someone on the inside replaced the card swipe terminal and it was stealing peoples numbers from credit and debit cards.

I don't have a credit card, i don't even have checks from my bank.

CCs and checks are like one night stands or ghosts, they come back to haunt you.

I use my bank card for all my purchases.
fortunately, it is easy to prove to my local bank that i couldn't buy Camels in Butte when twenty minutes earlier i paid for lunch in alabama.

i hope you get settled and come out ok with your card.

This happened to my mom. She ordered PC parts for me over a year ago, at Newegg. Total cost was I think close to a grand... the next day my mom got a call because someone attempted to use her card to buy a $15,000.00 piece of jewelry in Japan/Korea/China, I forget where.

Bad stuff I tell you. When I order parts now I go through Tiger Direct or use a cash card that you reload, but only once and go that route.

    PayPal FTW though.

Yeah a true credit card which I'm glad I caught before it got REALLY high since my card has a pretty high credit limit.:redface2:

    Yeah, not that desperate.:lol

I just now hafta make sure to check my card history online every couple of days to avoid this situation again, lesson learned.:dunce
