I happen to be extremely excited for this! A stop-motion animated Addams Family, based on the original material ever created for these characters. It's gonna be a blast! All you haters need to wait until we've seen more of the final product. Then, if he ruins it, hate away!
The Addams Family has been messed with time and again, from the canned laughter 70s cartoon, crossovers with Scooby Doo, MC Hammer, to the 90s DTV movies and sitcom and the upcoming Broadway musical. It's a boringly obvious choice for Tim Burton, but he might as well do his take on it. At least he's savy enough to go back to the original Charles Addams cartoons. That guy had some pretty unique ideas.
Holy crap, I didn't know that so many people didn't like Tim Burton. Still, that kinda happens for everything that's ever existed ever, so maybe I shouldn't be so shocked. I couldn't give two shits about the Addams Family (I've barely seen it, so why should I?), but I am interested in two of the other movies mentioned right at the end of the article (Where's Wally (damn it!) and The Lorax). Aaaaand apparently Firefox's dictionary doesn't have 'Wally' or 'movies'. WTF?
I hope Burton will start on it after he is finish filming Dark Shadows. That is suppose to start filming in September in London.
I'm kind of done with Tim Burton. No disrespect to the man, but every movie he gets his hands on nowadays seems to follow the exact same formula. Have a story, then add creepy sauce to it! I'm sure there are hordes of people who love that. Me personally, not such a big fan.
Yeah, the only thing I can fault Tim Burton on is his persistance in using Depp. Nothing against Depp himself but there is a reservoir of amazing talent out there that could use some work. Burton does like to make some darker and twisted things, but hey, if that's what the guy likes to do, and they usually work and make money, then good for him. I've liked plenty of his work. As per usual though, when you're as well kown as him you get more and more people who are vocal with how they disslike you- just the cost of popularity. On the other hand, I wasn't too pleased with his rendition of Willy Wonka, so he's not without fault. We will see with this, but of all directors to do this, I can think of far worse.
Michelle Pfeifer would be a good Morticia. She has that sexy, throaty voice. And if they're up to doing it, Christopher Lloyd and Carol Kane need to come back as Fester and Granny. They were great. As much as I love the Addams Family and am looking forward to the final product, I kind of wish he would do the Munsters. They've never been done outside of campy B movies.
dude i totally agree, and replace a while with forever or untill he can do something slightly different.
Good. His stuff should never have been so mainstream. He needs to get back in touch with his roots. I read an interview once where he said he liked to alternate between big studio movies and smaller personal movies. I think Big Fish was his last such movie, and since then he's been doing big budget remakes. Some of them turned out pretty good, but they're pretty hollow compared to Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare before Christmas.
This is just HIS interpretation of the franchise. No need to knock Burton into the floor for doing what he loves. D:
