So, seeing as we really don't have a sports section in the General discussion, I thought i'd post this.. now I know a lot of us probably aren't Golf fans, but to see what Tiger did today on a surgically repaired knee at Torrey Pines is incredible. There is probably no other golfer out there who could still be rehabbing and be playing this well in a major tournament. Now he has the lead going into the final day and has never lost a major with lead going into Sunday so this one could very well be over.
bah, Golf is not a sport. It's a nice little activity if you have the time to play...definitely not to watch.
To each his own, but how do you justify what is a sport? I don't like Hockey, but it is a great sport that takes a lot of athletic talent. Golf is the same. Not an activity, bud, but if you don't like something why come into a golf thread and say something negative? Back on topic, Tiger is amazing. This guy...this guy OWNS golf and is the best player EVAH
I'll give golf as a sport, but not auto racing. When I can manage to put a little ball in a cup, there's a sense of accomplishment. Driving around in circles for hours just wastes gas.
I'm not a fan of racing but I will tell you driving fast is very hard. The fastest I have ever been is 138 and these guys do 200 plus so I can give them credit for what they do.
Golf is more of a luxury sport, IMO Kinda like throwing horshoes and frisbee golf, or rolling those little wooden balls at chucky cheese. Way harder than it looks, and it does take some skill & practice Except for Tiger , he's a frikn prodigy
Golf is most definitely a Sport. I play it from time to time, and its awesome. Hard as hell to be good at, and there's definitely competitiveness to the whole thing too. you have to have atheletic abilities to play this at all. One game of golf, and you'll be sore as hell the next day. Tiger is currently still in the lead, but I didn't catch what hole he was on. If he wins, he'll just be 4 shy of the record already, friggin' unbelievable.
huh, can you guys hit 350 yards straight(i doubt it) i am a decent player and i can barely drive more than 280 and i am a bigger guy and athletic.
Golf is a sport because it is a physical activity that is played competitively. If you say golf isn't a sport then you don't know what the word means. You don't have to like it, but saying it isn't a sport is basically ignorance.
I'm not much for WATCHING golf, but man its fun to play.. especially when you have a cooler full to cart around with ya If anyone was wondering, he had to make a 12+foot putt in order to tie the leader and force an 18 hole playoff round for tomorrow... and he did it.. I turned on the TV just as the guy he was partnered with shot and missed, and then he stepped up to start figuring out what he wanted to do for that very putt. I have to say it was pretty electric, and was pretty fun when it went in the hole.
I don't really get the point of watching sports, that's just me, but golf = sport(I dare someone to say that skateboarding isn't a sport). Most other sports have good people that I've never heard about, but even I know who Tiger Woods is, he's become a symbol for golf
Truly. Yes, I love golf. I'm taking off work tomorrow to watch the playoff starting at noon(EST). Poor guy is going to get a handful of his own ass presented to him. The PGA ranked #1 vs. #157. Tigers got the hunger and determination after sinking that putt. Nothings going to stop him. If he wins, it will be his 7th win at Pines, breaking a record for same course wins. And to anyone who says golf is not a sport, I challenge you to 18 holes, 95 degrees outside, no caddy, and no cart. It will separate the men from the boys.
I'm taking a half day today to watch the final round. This is definitely the most exciting U.S. Open in recent memory. Tiger is our generation's Babe Ruth, so in that context I try to watch his tournaments as much as possible. When he's gone, golf won't be the same.
