when looking at armada tidal wave's design and his split vehicle modes, anyone else think maybe he was an homage to G1 Overlord?

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks that.

i finally found an armada DL and when watching it, tidal wave really looked like overlord. even his first battle was in a sandy area just like overlord.

Not much of an homage so much as coincidence. Colors aren't the same, vehicle modes are different.... I see nothing. Bad goggles, bad!

nah they both have body mounted blasters, while tidalwave doesnt have a tank, he does link to one yes? and while they are sea vehicles they fly. i found his debut episode very much like overlords debut masterforce episode. and i do think they have some similar designs.

Huh, now that you mention it...

Additionally, in the show Thrust tells Megatron that Tidal Wave was a brilliant field commander. While Tidal Wave in the end ended up being pretty stupid, Overlord was a pretty smart Decepticon.

I can sort of see it but that may be beacuse of quite a few Overlord Customs I've seen that have used Tidal Wave as the base figure.

Mostly though I would say coincedence.
