I bought the GI Joe Matt Tracker figure as soon as I saw him. Not only was M.A.S.K. one of my favortie toylines when I was a kid, but it was also cool that his bio put M.A.S.K. continuity firmly inside the GI Joe universe which, as we all know, is the same as the Transformers universe. One could easily imagine that the M.A.S.K. subdivision of GI Joe was created using Cybertronian tech. The problem, of course, was that Matt Tracker wasn't of much use with only his helicopter pack. What he needed was his good old Thunderhawk back. When I saw the Dark Knight Batmobile / Bruce Wayne's car on clearance at K-Mart, I knew he'd be getting it. Here's the original for comparison: Here's mine in standard car mode: And in battle mode: It's not a bad toy, overall. It's got a pretty cool one-step transformation. Pulling the spoiler back activates a series of springs and gears that pop out all the panels. Has two firing missiles. One neat feature that I can't really utilize is that the car is made with two seperate cockpits. The idea is that you put the Bruce Wayne figure in the car and the Batman in the Batmobile. When you transform the car, the cockpits shift positions to give the impression that Bruce changed into his Batsuit. If I had a second Matt Tracker, I could stip him down to his civies in the car mode and have him all duded up in the battle mode.
I loved MASK, and I am so jealous, I can't find the new Matt Tracker anywhere in town. That is a great use for that car! It really works as a MASK vehicle. Excellent.
Yeah that looks very authentic. Feels like some sort of 20th anniversary release of some kind. Excellent job.
Thanks. It's Krylon Fusion red. I love their Fusion paints. They cover great and are at least 5 types of durable. It was an easy project to paint, too. I'm used to taking my TFs apart for painting, but that wasn't really possible with this thing so I just taped off everything and sprayed it whole. Worked better than I thought it would, to be honest. I used a clear yellow over the silver painted headlights which ends up looking really good in person, though it doesn't translate as well in the pictures. As an aside, I love that the shape of the headlights (once they're yellow) really calls back to the lightning bolts on the hood of the original. He's actually the only GI Joe I currently own. I was never really that into Joe for some reason when I was a kid, but I had to have that one. I was walking down K-Mart's discount aisle when I stumbled accross that Batmobile. I don't think they could have made it a better MASK car if they had tried! Check your local K-Mart. It was originally like $25 or so, but at mine its marked down to $16 plus the 20% discount on all clearance toys. Thanks again to everyone for your comments.
And I just came back from Toys R Us and got some figures...If I see it on clearance, I'll get it. Where did you get the stickers?
I made those myself. I bought some stickyback photo paper from the scrapbooking section of Hobby Lobby. The brand name is Design-ables from Z-International. $6 for 20 4" x 6" sheets, so the price isn't too bad. They could stand to be a little more sticky on the back, but otherwise are pretty great. It's the first time I've tried them and I think I'd use them again. They also had a clear version, so that might be something I try in the future as well.
Wow, great work on that, and i agree with everyone else that the paint job looks friggin perfect. Awsome job
MASK CHARACTERS RELEASED IN THE GIJOE LINE?! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT! I loved those toys, bought some recently on ebay
Very cool custom, nice job. And man... I almost fell for that continuity explanation. I have a couple of joes in my collection. As I do with a spider-man. But I have never seen a connection with MASK..... now I'm almost obliged to fish up a matt tracker and T bob! iDD
But you can bet that I'd be all over it if they released a Miles Mayhem. I wonder if there are any toys that would make a good Switchblade. Thanks! You know, the original MASK figures are 1:24 scale, so they fit in perfect with Alternators. I've got a few of mine that I found in my parents attic hanging out with my Alts.
