    Personal history here.

My grandfather on my mom's side, aka her father, served during the Second World War and was not just in the Battle of the Buldge, but also in the Normandy invasion. He was in the D-Day operation.

My grandfather was no doubt on one of those landing craft that landed on the American beach-heads, under fire from the Nazi soldiers. Just the mere thought of him going through such a thing is what makes me proud to be his descendant. He had the courage to do what so many did, and what others did not want to do.

Sadly, he passed away from alcohol abuse when my mom was 19, so I never got to meet him. He often hid his past involvement in the war due to post-traumatic-stress-disorder, and so my mom never found out until after he had passed away. One of my uncles, aka one of my mom's brothers, found my grandfather's medals while cleaning out his apartment after his death.

He had apparently earned a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and a few others for his bravery during that war. So, today just made me think of him and how he served this country, the United States, so well. May he be forever remembered for his actions, and may those veterans of this war never be forgotten.

Yeah, kinda stuffy and boring. I was not expecting to write such a thing out either. I normally never think this deeply, so...yeah. Kinda random. :D

Oh how this country and its ideals have changed since then. A simpler time with more noble pursuits.

Regardless, a hearty thanks to those brave soldiers who defied the odds and would not back down.

You realize the attack was launched ironically on the 6th hour of the 6th day of the 6th month right?

Three sixes... (666) that's what you call a creul fate.

But someone had to take a stand. and that just happened to be when we fought back.

Stop sucking up. The Allies were not heroes, and they bombed plenty of civilians.

Oh I can´t believe I missed that. Yeah, better go and tell all those Red Army vets how lazy they were in WWII.

You'd be surprised how common that number actually is.

And a big thank you to the brave people who thought and died for our freedom.

Yup, and the Allied troops in North Africa, Greece, Italy, Burma and the Pacific were just sodding around.
