On a whim, I was looking at my classics display and thought it'd be fun to give Thrilling 30 Jetfire a G1 (Macross style) VF-1S head and gun. Drafted up a rough head design for a low res test fit and remixed a GU-11 gunpod file to scale and gave it a 5mm handle. Working on cleaning up the head, and eventually planning to redesign the old super armor from the G1 toy to fit on this guy. And yes, it transforms into alt mode just fine with the replacement head on. =p

Update: Newest version of the head. Ended up designing a whole new ball jointed neck, as it was too hard printing a head compatible with the stock neck. Pretty happy with the overall look and proportions of this one, so I'll probably do one more refined print to make the tolerances a little tighter, then go to finishing process.

No way... that'd require Hasbro levels of engineering to incorporate cleanly into the stock design, and I'm just a normal working stiff hobbyist using free software. =p

Ah, I thought a little clip-me-do over the chest would be easy but since I'm only a novice 3D modeller myself I can see the difficulties. I should really think these things out... :p

A clip on piece actually is doable, but to create a shell that would fit seamlessly over the current chest with no gaps would take time. I'm working on a few things to try and get to that level of precision, but the free software I'm currently using is very limited in terms of measuring capabilities.

Mixture of TinkerCad, Meshmixer, and Cura as my slicer. I'm debating subscribing to Adobe CC just to get access to Photoshop, which would help a lot to get precise curved/contoured shapes into my cad designs and make things like seamless add on upgrade parts possible for me on my home printer.

Might I suggest Fusion 360? You can actually get a free license as a hobbyist.

Haha, no, I hate the red chrome. I've watched various how to's on how to strip it off, but just never got around to it. If I can get a good design going for the G1 style armor pieces, I'm planning to just get rid of the red chrome parts completely.

Not sure yet, but I'll post it on the market if I decide to get rid of it.
