My opionion of combining dinobots is the same as my opionion of say combining ark crew autobots. They are all compromised by their combining constrainsts. The dinobots don't look bad at all but yeah, they had to be one voyager and four deluxes. Disclaimer: ignore me i dont collect Chug anyway.
I do like combiners so I await the repaint/retool into other characters, whether existing or new. Already have Voyager Dinobots I'm more than pleased with, so I won't ever take PotP Grimlock and crew as my Classics Dinobots. I don't accept that any of the Dinobots should be shorter/smaller than Classics Prime.
As a reasonable fan of G1 aesthetic and lore, toys featuring the gimmick does not always translate into affecting the lore, IDW is more of an influence in that respect. Also this does not break the rules the lore sets up. No where in G1 lore is it established that the Dinobots can not hold the Enigma of combination. Therefore it is entirely possible that the Dinobots in current lore obtain the Enigma and combine. Some will say "oh but they are so disagreeable / independant etc," to which I reply there are other disagreeable combiner teams. That said it does infuriate me when the the lore's world rules are broken, like in Micheal Bay's Transformers Movie, where Bee scans a new alt mode causally. While in G1 including IDW, Surgeries, a Ship with a Maintenance Bay or Teletran 1 is required to change one's alt mode. Micheal Bay's change effectively makes the Transformers into T1000s, capable of mimicking anything anytime.
Ihave yet to see pics that indicate these Dinos are compromised due to combining ability. What constitutes a compromise? So far if l was to split hairs, l wish Grimlock's beast toes were longer, and l am not really in love with Sludge's tail making heels, looks odd
I LOVE the idea of the Dinobots combining, and we'll see how the figures shake out next year. If Volcanicus is awesome, I can't wait to have him joing the ranks of my other Autobot combiners. I may call him Extinction or Dinoking, though. Not sure about the name Volcanicus. I'm really interested to see how Slash interacts with Volcanicus, if she does at all.
The Dino modes rear legs on some of the Deluxes being just one cast piece without articulation likely a result of the parts count being used up for the combiner engineering.
I can see your point. G1 Sludge had a one piece back leg. Let's call it an Homage lol. As a counterpoint, Swoop had no Dino legs, just toes but this new mold has at least what appears to be a two part articulation leg (hip and toe hinges) TR Skullsmasher had one piece hind legs as well with no limb mode to compromise him EDIT: Sludge may have had a hinge on his ankles to pivot his feet in bot mode. My G1 sludge is packed away......
I don't mind the gimmick. At least you don't have to remove their heads and store them. I'll pick these up. And still want a proper set of Dinobots.
The design looks really good and I would like to get all of the Dinobots. But now all I can think about is how they're going to be even more of a pain to get because of scalping.
Why not just get them when case assortments become available with the site sponsors? Any slight increase from BBTS and the like still beat out the prices you get from TF scalpers.
I love the Dinobots but I wasn't feeling the look of Vulcanicus's combined mode, that is until I saw these pics. It looks a lot better here. I bet you $5 this time next year Takaras cartoon accurate Vulcanicus will go for $300 on ebay.
worst name ever. Swoops wings should of been on the back IMO. waited a lot of years for this and I think it's kind of a letdown for me.
