While I love Animated I couldn't help but drool over the concept art for what was the foundation for Animated - the rumored "Transformers Hero". It's clear that the characters that we enjoyed in Animated was possible thanks to Derrick J. Wyatt's unique character design aesthetic. However I noticed the similarities in the Hero designs for Blitzwing, Lugnut, Lockdown and Starscream to their Animated counterparts but also Optimus Prime who looks very human, Jetfire and Prowl - no doubt the product of Eric and Derrick's work.

What I wanted to ask is what are your thoughts on the Hero aesthetic and their designs in general - not if you prefer it over Animated's. Afterall we may see some of their designs recycled in the future like how Transtech's were in AEC. From what I read in the Allspark Almanac, the designs seemed much more streamlined than those we got in AEC - especially in what you get to see of Optimus. Soundwave and Megatron definitely gave me the Transtech vibe but toned down to a degree which I think would've flown a bit more with the general crowd after seeing the first Bay movie.

They can be found in the recently released Transformers Animated Allspark Almanac. ^_^

Though, please don't post scans here. Posting copyrighted pages from books and comics is against the rules. Just FYI.

Should pick up the Almanac its totally worth it especially if you're an Animated fan but that's for a different thread. As for what Transformers Heroes is, its the concept work and story direction that Hasbro wanted to take the franchise around 2004. From what I've read in the Almanac, Derrick Wyatt was brought in and gave the designs a new aesthetic and gave us what we know today as Transformers Animated.

Is it a lot more movie-looking, like the recently seen movie lockdown?

I remember that artwork. It was okay. I think how Animated ended up was better though, even if I'm still not totally fond of either style.

Its just a rough outline sketch but it looks pretty badass he's carrying a robotic skull in his hand with a spine dangling. What really gets me about his design is how there are so many weapons designed into him - really brings out the hunter aspect. Would've been awesome if his toy featured the tuner parts that transformer into the spears and lances pictured and the hubcaps becoming landmines.

I loved Aniamted's aesthetic, but the Heroes aesthetic seen at the end of the book with Prime just is awesome. I'd like to see that or a streamlined, less "busy" version of the Movie aesthetic as our next line.

Here is one design I found of Jetfire and Jetstorm. Quite awesome, IMO.

There's also a concept for the Dinobots, too. It's on Swan Galloway's Deviantart. :D

    Here.

He also has one of Optimus, but it was just for fun I think:

    Optimus Prime.

They might be in there, but these are from before the Almanac was finished.

Just to give you a heads up, Sean Galloway is currently the head character designer for Spectacular Spiderman.

Nope as cool as that picture is that's not the one that's from the Animated Almanac. Looks like CW brought on quite a few artists to get a feel of the artistic direction they wanted to go in. The Hero aesthetic is like what Spin-Out described it as more movie like with it being toned down.
