So, I had an idea. What if Rodimus Prime is the name Orion Pax takes the second time he takes the title of Prime?

It'd be a neat way to give the fans Rodimus WITHOUT killing Prime. The change in personality to a more "Rodimus" outlook could simply be showing how Orion is adjusting to his new responsibilities, something Optimus had already done a long time ago.

Barring Orion getting his memories back and becoming Optimus Prime again, I think this could be a cool way to handle what's happened to Optimus.

I don't know. I think you can just as well have Rodimus as a separate character and not kill Prime.

NO GOD! PLEASE NO!!! NOOOOOOOOOO - YouTube

As much as I like to think outside the box when it comes to Transformers, I honestly think that is an absolutely horrible idea. I also can't see Hasbro ever doing that. Optimus Prime is too big of a name (to them) to drop it.

I wouldn't mind Rodimus/Hot Rod getting involved, but as a separate character, and kept as far away from the Matrix as possible.

^ It's a name change and the writers would be fools to not use this as a way to expand on Prime's character. As it is he's just a big guy who points out the obvious.

Rodimus needs to be his own character, if they decide to ever bring him in.

If he gets his appearance changed, I actually considered that myself to be a possibility.

I don't see how a name change would be important to expanding his character. By the looks of it, they'll have him learn some lessons while with the cons, and when he gets his memory back those experiences will be the change needed to make his character more lively.

Honestly, the biggest change I want to see with him when he eventually get's his Prime status back, is some good life lessons, and maybe his alt-mode. Would be a good chance to have him change from a semi to a firetruck :ev:  Which would then feed Hasbro's need to sell more toys, while retaining the ever so recognizable name of Optimus Prime.

The name change would be symbolic. He'd no longer be the leader he was for the last million or so years. He'd be a new, young, inexperienced leader. For the fandom, the name change would mean much more than just a symbol of change, it would be a motif of other young, inexperienced leaders.

    Face it.

Hasbro's longterm goal is to remove the memory of "Rodimus Prime" from everyones' memories. They gave up on "Hot Rod" and now call him "Rodimus" ... and that's good enough for them.

We will never have another "Rodimus Prime" figure in terms of cartoon/comic. And if we do, it won't be an Optimus Prime successor, but rather a rival "Prime" figure.

Huh? Why Rodimus? And from what we know, Primes don't choose their names, they are given to them by a high power. Even in G1, Optimus Prime: Rise, Rodimus Prime.

Plus, Rodimus comes from "Hot Rod". I can't see a reason Optimus would adopt the name "Rodimus Prime" for any other reason than as a porn stage name.

Transformers Animated Rodimus Major existed, ergo, I find your point lacking in potency. Hot Rod / Rodimus is still a well known name in the fandom with many people who adore the character / name association. And newer fans won't know any of the negative connotations associated with the character. It's not like Hasbro is afraid the name "Rodimus" will frighten off children.

Optimus does not come from Orion Pax, either.

Nope, nope and probably nope. Hasbro hasn't been able to use the name "hot rod" for a while now, and since everyone's saying Optimus is the last of the Primes, .. well, they might be wrong, but I doubt it. They could bring in Springer as Hot Rod/Rodimus in spirit, but otherwise I don't see him happening anytime soon.

I thought they weren't using "Hot Rod" because they can't get the trademark on it.

Which is why the thread is about Orion Pax taking on the name Rodimus Prime, not about a character named Hot Rod coming into the show.

Yeah, but "Orion Pax" was added retroactively. With Rodimus, it was "Ummm...okay, Hot Rod...Hot ROD...uhh...ROD...uh RodIMUS...yeah YEAH RODIMUS PRIME. We nailed it guys, call the meeting, we're done".

I do not see how that is relevant, Sinnertwin. In the context of the show, Orion Pax's name COMPLETELY CHANGED when he became a Prime. Optimus Prime has reverted back to being Orion Pax. If he does not regain his memories, I find it suiting that he would adopt a different Prime title if he ever regains the title of Prime. Rodimus would be the most likely name he could take.
