I was in Walmart the other night right as they were putting 1 Red Alert and 1 Dirge out and I saw this Thunderwing figure. I passed on it cause it just looked like a dude fused to the bottom of a jet.

Does anyone have this figure and is it any good? It looks familiar like its a redeco or something?

    Thanks~

Its a dude with a Jet on its back, but both the Jet and the dude on it's back are one of the most fiddlicious figures I've snagged lately. The right end of the spectrum of Simple Transformations. I may have paid less than half price for him, but he still, is quite awesome, and I'm glad I splurged on him.

Well maybe I will wait for clearance on him, I'll pick up Skullgrin and WFC Bumblebee in the meantime if I can find them.

He is simple, and needs to be a voyager sized figure.

He is awesome and a must have.

He doesn't need to be any bigger, he's fine as is.

He does look goofy in box, but that's because he's mistransformed, his chest piece folds over his head and makes his jet mode look a LOT better

I wished the drone would have been able to transform, but I'm still totally shocked that we get an update for this guy. He's been one of my absolute favorites from this year. Another favorite for me that I got this year was G1 Thunderwing. :D

Initially, I thought of him as some Beast War line until further researched showed he was a G1. Then when I saw him on the pegs and looked at it, I was quite impress with the molds and the color scheme. I think he should have been a voyager size at least!

I'm glad Thunderwing is deluxe class. He fits in well with the seeker jets.

This. If he were any bigger, then his simple transformation would grate on my nerves.

The new Thunderwing has less play value than his G1 namesake, but has more articulation and is very well detailed for his size. I heartily recommend him.

If it were bigger, I'd certainly want some more twist and such. The transformable drone would be a requirement at that point as well for me. Actually having it as a Pretender would kick as well - think of it more like a mech suit. :)

I prefer simple transformations because then I can actually remember how to transform the damn toy without having to break out the instruction sheet. :D

I wouldn't buy him if he was a Pretender. That gimmick is never going to work.

The concept of TFs using mech suits or even parts to upgrade a smaller robot isn't a new one and isn't doomed to failure. My main holdback on some Pretenders is the 40 ft human as a disguise on the Autobot side. Even the Decepticon Pretenders as monsters is ok to a point; I rather enjoyed how Masterforce tells the story.

I like it better when it's just a mech suit formed from a separate chunk of the alt-mode like Ultra Magnus's trailer. But when it's suppose to be some kind of goofy disguise shell that hides the puny, unimpressive Transformer inside, then it's just horrible.

Yeah, that's where I agree with you. That being said, I never said that I'd want a new Thunderwing toy touting itself as a "disguise" for Thunderwing (the robot). I do like the idea of a robot utilizing other things for weapons or enhancements, etc.

If they still had Ultras around, I would have loved to have seen a take on Thunderwing and the Drone that was as big as G2 Dreadwing and Smokescreen.

The Drone could have been treated like Thunderwing's herald in the fiction.
