YouTube - AP Impact: Harmful Metals in Collectible Cups

I knew about the Shrek glasses and the big recall on them, but now they're testing and saying that many of the older glasses (Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.) are dangerous as well. To no surprise, the media is making this into a big deal and trying to scare parents. So if any of you folks happen to collect these types of glasses, you might want to hold on to them.

Since they discovered that the issue goes back for decades, I'm just curious if they will go test other older pieces like the plastic cups featuring Transformers, G.I. Joe, Go-Bots, etc. from the 80's or the many Welche's Grape Jelly containers/glasses.

Plastic cups, probably not so much, as they would use different paints and dyes to adhere to the plastic, compared to the harsher stuff needed to work on a glass surface. The plastic cups are probably safer, in that regard.

My grandfather had those glasses where the women would have their clothes disappear when the drink cooled the ink-stuff. Classy.

I don't think collectible fast food restaurant glasses are worth much money on the secondary market. due to the fact they get used & contain germs. even if they aren't used & kept brand new, most will think there used & full of germs.

we are currently using my "camp snoopy" mcdonald's glasses from the 80's. the paint hasn't even begun to come off after 2 years of use, which has made me wonder what's in it!

You can't dwell on the unknown. It seems that every day now something emerges about stuff we've been using for years suddenly becoming harmful for us.

My cross-eyed neighbor kid had a full set of those glass Smurfs glasses. I always suspected he had lead paint exposure or something.
