YouTube - Another CGI Thomas Picture!

starting season 13, the show will be completely computer animated. so season twelve will be the last season to use the models that i grew up with and love. seriously....the company that has thomas now is making a HUGE mistake....first they change the camera style, which is vastly inferior to the old style, and now this....i just hope and pray this doesn't kill off thomas, cause i want my children to grow up with thomas like i did. i miss the old camera way is cause it looked real. seriously, even today i have to remind myself they are model trains cause i get so into it.

here is how the two cameras look like:

    old
    YouTube - Gallant Old Engine

    new
YouTube - Rheneas and the Dinosaur

i just wish thomas would go back to the way it was back in the day, and they would make the remaining stories written by Rev. W. Awdry that haven't been made into episodes

also ANOTHER drastic change is that a Canada-based group will be making thomas instead of the UK-based that has been making thomas for years......this ain't good

I'm just going to come right out and say it.

If the usual group does any of the usual stuff, automatic ban.

I don't see much of a difference between the two camera styles but the idea of TTTE going CGI is really depressing. Shooting it all with models is like 90% of the charm, style, and slight creepiness of the whole show. :p

Well bugger me, and just when I thought Thomas could sink no lower after the 'Magic Railway' debarcle involving two actors whom shall remain nameless and the concept that shall go unmentioned.

I've got Thomas the Tank Engine, series 1 when it was still narrated by Ringo Starr. I've also watched the newer episodes. Aside from one in which Gordon has the most EPIC crash in TTTE history, they lack the charm of the old ones.

The CGI looks out of place and cheap, which to me is the real crime since it makes Thomas look bad. Keep the models gents, old they may be, but faithful they have been.

EDIT: Draven, who is the usual group and what is the usual stuff?

Well, the old camera maked the show look more cinematic, with the new one, you can tell they're models. I grew up with Thomas, too. Since I was 2 in fact. Them doing this is like taking the war theme out of GI Joe. It eliminates the realism. They already have CGI segments in between the stories. Keep it at that.

I was too old when the show came out for me to enjoy it, but I did find the model train sets to be amazing.

Going to CGI is a mistake. CGI should only be use on stuff that is impossible to do, not on everything under the sun. Stan Winston understood that, Del Toro understands it, why can't everyone else?

Wow that CG Thomas looks really creepy. Too bad for all those who are going to miss out on the classic model trains as they grow up. :(

This is like doing a CG sequel to the Nightmare Before Christmas, or Wallace and Grommit. The models are the whole point.

That has to be the one. Not only did his front wheels basically PEEL off, but he hurt other people in the process. E-PIC.

Eh, it was bound to happen sooner or later. I was into it for about a year when I was really little. Then other things got my interest (Batman mostly). Trains just weren't my thing, though I've been getting into them more lately. My family and trains have a little bit of a history anyways.

Models are cooler yes, but CGI probably works out cheaper and easier.

I liked Thomas and friends when I was young. I personally don't like the idea of CGI, but really I don't think it's that bad.

Because someone in marketting thinks that everyone loves CGI so that's what studios should focus on.

For Transformers, CGI works when its applied well. Case in point, Beast Wars. Fails hard when poorly applied, Cybertron/Energon.

Thomas though, the models had a charm thats hard to replicate with CGI. Maybe its just me but seeing a close to perfect working replica of a Steam Locomotive with a face on it speaking in a deep British accent (I refer to Gordon) is just..........cool.
