For the love of god, why? Why all of a sudden did it become chic to have a fakebake tan, act like a complete moron/tool and have a stupid nickname?

I know some people hated New Jersey before, but this is just giving even more people a reason. Hopefully this trend will die soon.

Why? It's so educational. The cast are great role models. Many people want to be just like them.

oh yeah....I know. I can't wait to spend hours upon hours in the bathroom using hairspray, gel, mousse, a hair dryer and come so my head can look like...almost a mushroom too. Besides....looking orange is the in thing these days. I don't know why people don't cosplay the look.

The outer appearences of things are often decieving. I have several friends from NJ, and a lot of them pretty much adhere to a number of the stereotypes you mentioned - but it's not that different from me being from the south, walking around in western shirts, jeans and one of those bent up straw cowboy hats with a faded "Miller" logo on it. In the end, people tend to feel enough of a kinship with their place of origin to represent it in a way that many others from that area do. It doesn't mean they're categorically incapable of having outside the box traits and interests, and being perfectly great people to talk to.

Fair enough, but dressing up and acting like a redneck has yet to really take off in a big way. No, Larry the Cable Guy doesn't really count.

I saw that roast last night for Trump with that one NJ idiot. My god, he alone made me want to see the state get nuked. He should never, never, never have been allowed on TV in any way, shape, or form - let alone take part in a roast. I've never seen anyone get nearly booed off the stage like that.

Because a show (on a network that doesn't hide the fact that it's pandering to the lowest common denominator) glorifying a half dozen or so idiots represents the entirety of a state. I know it's hipster cool to rail on Jersey based on the Jersey Shore instead of basing it on real experience.

I'm with ya on this one MMM, this show is just fucking ridiculous. There is one side effect I seem to be having thought from seein Snooki too much in the news, magazines, TV etc....I'm starting to think she is kinda hot. Short, cute, big boobies, built like a real woman and not anorexic. Just need to do something with that personality....

It's not the show (or even the state), it's the fact that the stupidity that drives it seems to be taking a life of it's own. The lifestyle those idiots put forth is spreading.

I've never even watched the show - I just see the idiocy it creates in the media, copycats, etc. It's the "Jersey" effect.

That's just the perception that social and mainstream television is putting forth. Stations like MTV, Comedy Central, etc. all give that stuff constant coverage, because it's appealing (in their minds) to the most people. The mainstream push latches (or rather leeches) onto it hoping that any popularity it gains rubs off on them. there will always be the trend followers, even if it's a minor trend, so long as it's an in your face trend (such as the numskulls on Jersey Shore). In reality, it has no more impact than any other reality show.

I see what you're saying, it appearing to be more popular that it actually is.

I still hope it dies a burning death, and soon.

The funnier thing is that this perception is based on the smallest possible sliver of NJ, the extreme southeast tip of the state. In a way, the actual New Jersey shore is it's own thing. With each section (Wildwood, Cape May, Atlantic City, Ocean City) acting almost like independent entities, existing in their own delusional universes.

Having visited New Jersey many times, the actual shore is awesome. I enjoy walking the boardwalks and the people. It's the sub-group of party goers that makes a bad impression in the whole state.

Living at the beach in San Diego and growing up in Hawaii, It's embarrassing to us. Some people think that all beach lifestyles is like that.

That's when the realization hit me. Right about the point where she stood nose to tit with McCool.
