...but the wife and I are not sure about spending the money. We'll be driving from Florida (with a three-year-old and a one-year-old, no less) and we'll have to stay in a hotel of course. We're not sure how much admission is going to be (probably $10 for walk-ins, we assume); we don't know how much the set of exclusives will cost; and there's no telling what I might want to buy once I get there. I'm not into trying to get the most hard-find-rarities (maybe a BW Neo Gigastorm) or a lot of statues or artwork or weird stuff. The most I will want is some G1 figures I missed the first time around and maybe some replacements for ones I've lost or broken as a child.

We do have one major question: What is the advantage to staying in the BotCon hotel? I seem to remember there being some kind of incentive for last year's BotCon, but I don't remember what it was or if it was that great. We had thought about staying in a different hotel a little farther away and at a cheaper price, but I don't want to miss out on something cool because I want to save a few bucks.

We're just not sure we want to spend nearly $400 on a hotel room that we won't be spending much time in. I don't know...maybe there's a Super 8 or Motel 6 somewhere nearby:yuck

    What do you guys think?

I believe all the rooms at the hotel with the reduced rate are gone. If you are looking to save money I suggest you go for Motel 6.

the advantage of staying in the BotCon hotel, is they had after show events planned, like gaming night , and the dinner & casino night. But last year I only know of them keeping the events in the main or 1st HOTEL. Which is SOLD OUT, Not sure if they are planning on doing events in the back up hotels.

As far as the price of the exclusives set will cost is $300.00 for non-club members and I think it was $275 for member. But if your not into the classic line then I say stay as walk ins. Would be cheaper, but I think that it will be on long line.

I just mapquest driving and it over 21 hours from your part of FL. BUt at least it's all on 95. if you want and can drive straight from you place to mine. I'm in va beach, so Let me know if I can be of any more help

Thus ends my problem of the BotCon hotel...Motel 6 it is (my wife is going to kill me).

Love the classics, so I'll probably shell out the $300 if I go. The good thing is that Sara (la esposa) isn't a fan, so we won't have to buy her a set.:D

Yeah, we did the mapquest thing too. And thanks for your offer of accomodations. The funny thing is that Sara's grandparents also live in VA Beach, and we had considered making a stop for a night so they could see their great-grandkids.

So here's the run-down, then: We drive to the Hotel 6 or whatever flea-bag we decide to go with, pay the approximately $200-$250 to stay for three nights, then we go to the Con, pay $300 for the exclusive set plus admission for us both (about $20). We can eat for maybe $25-$30 a day if we stick to fast food (and that's for three meals a day). I probably won't spend much more than $200 on stuff I want (including what my son might want). I guess last year they had some kind of customizing class and tours or something; I doubt we'll do anything like that if it costs extra. Add to all that the fact that we will be seeing the movie the Wednesday following BotCon, and we're looking at spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $750-$850 (ballpark estimate).

If we do this, Sara also wants to drive up to Maine afterward and check out the New England sights and attractions, and basically just have a good-ol' family road trip. This is shaping up to be quite the expensive vacation.

She's also going to have to drive everywhere we go after BotCon, because I will be playing with all my new toys and/or reading all my new comics

They did have a Mini-con pass where the person waering that pass got in to the dealer floor just like the primus pass but not sure if that was good for anything else
