In previous years, I would have described the relationship between Marvel and DC a sibling rivalry. Now it has turned into Guerilla Warfare. I love how they say it's to provide "assistance" to retailers, but 50 comics for a variant cover is hardly a fair trade.

It's not Disney. It's Joe. It's always Joe. For some insane reason, he thinks he can force the old rivalry to come back.

But it's a Deadpool variant cover. Deadpool, man! Right there on the cover! Given how much people love Deadpool, I'd say trading 50 comics for it is a steal; retailers are lucky they don't have to send in their entire stock of unsold DC comics for each copy.

Anyway, I really can't get worked up over this, but I don't know how successful this is going to be. Given how many stores had promotions requiring purchase of those books to get the rings, which were in fairly high demand, I can't imagine a lot of stores (especially smaller stores) would have much stock of those issues left. I guess it makes sense for a retailer if they figure they can sell that variant cover for more than they'd be able to sell the 50 comics for, but is there really that much of a market for expensive variant covers any more? The larger LCS I used to go to had a wall of sad, lonely variant covers that no one seemed interested in.

Which is sad because almost every other person in Marvel and DC says their rivalry is friendly.

Quesada's trying to add fuel to a fire that hasn't existed for a while.

    yeah, this is brutally stupid...

especially considering that these issues were all 3.99...(and we're ignoring the miniscule cost of the rings in relation to the comics) comic stores usually pay about half of cover per comic...therefore, they all paid about 2 bucks an issue, so for 50 issues, it cost them 100 bucks...destroying those and sending them in is so NOT worth a variant comic that WILL NOT sell for 100+ that's just insane... i hope stores are smarter then this... because this is truly fucking dumb...

and what makes this even worse, is this variant is coming out after marvel does its 15 deadpool variants in february... what the hell are they thinking?

THIS is pretty fricking awesome! My local store has sooooooo many copies of the "ring" books still on shelf and he can't move them.

This is perfect for every small store that has dozens of copies of the same 7 books on their shelf.

    Also, it's pretty hilarious.

There is a rumor that Disney plans to move Quseda to the animation department, I hope it's true.

I remember the days when the rivalry was pretty much referenced by Marvel as their 'Direct Competition'.

    Nowadays it just seems bitter.

Ironic that the company not doing the crossover about the dead rising is the one trying to "kill" the competition's books.

Just reeks of desperation to me. It almost sounds like the whole concept of "put out better quality than the competitor" has fallen by the wayside.

If this happens, he'll be humbled in a New York minute. Even if you don't count Lasseter, the talent at Disney Animation like Glen Keane and John Pomeroy blow guys like Quesada out of the water creatively.
