I would advise against it. :(  Its stories like this that make me lose a little bit of faith in humanity.....
Calif. Court: Would-be Good Samaritan can be sued - Yahoo! News
EDIT: Whether you agree or disagree with the actual case at the heart of this matter, its the far reaching implications it has that kinda bum me out.

    What a lovely friend.
Ugh. Why do I envision a guy tenting his fingers and licking his lips when I read this?

Well, I've got a question. Since this woman basically, or to an extent, owes her life to this friend, would it be wrong for the defendant to just shoot her? Hell, problem solved. "Oh, I made a mistake, now I've rectified it." WTF is wrong with people?

For the record, I work in an industry where I'm around disabled folks on a daily basis. These are people that inspire me to no end. They amaze me with their attitudes, determination, and will. This woman needs to give thanks that shes a para and not a high level quad.

Don't flame me, I'm just trying to make a point.

EDIT: I bet the Van Horn woman is obese as hell to boot. How the hell else do you pull someone out of a car but like a rag doll. If she was so "safe", why did she get out on her own.

Owes her life? At what point does it say that if she hadn't dragged her freind from the car she'd be dead now?

As for "Oh, I made a mistake, now I've rectified it.",give it a few years,I'm sure there will be a greasy lawyer to make this possible.

    What a low-life scum bag.

Your friend pulls you from a wrecked car because they were in fear for your life.

And this is how you return the favor?

....lemme guess, she didn't have full coverage insurance, and this is how she is gonna get her loot, by suing a friend....jeesh....some people.

See, the thing I've never understood is this. In Ohio, I believe there's a law that states that you have an obligation to help somebody in need... if you don't you can be sued. But then... if you try to help them and something goes wrong in the process... you can be sued.

How the fuck is that fair to anybody?

As for this particular case: What a fucking bitch.

i think the Good Samaritan law only applies to medical help...dunno if there's one for other types of help. Wish there was so good people dont get f'd for being good people.

not sure how it is elsewhere, but in Virginia, the Good Samaritan law as it is protects trained people from being sued. IE my girlfiend is a lifeguard, if she jumps in to save someone, pulls them out, does CPR, she can't be sued. if she doest something outside of her training, does something she wasn't supposed to do, then she's no longer exempt. i'm not sure how it all goes down for people like in this case where the Samaritan is not trained in saving lives (though i feel for this to be a court case, the victim has to prove they weren't paralyzed in the wreck, but afterwards by the efforts of the Samaritan).

You know if I see anyone crashed on the side of the road I'm driving on. No help from me. Not going to get sued. Unless it is like the Seinfeld finale where they are convicted for NOT helping a guy.

It will be over turned. This bitch doesn't want help, now she's really not going to get it for years after this.

so next time before you pull someone out...ask if your going to get sued for helping...

if they say yes, i think you have the right to not help.

if they say no, then you should be ok.

Thats the law that put Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer behind bars you bastards!!! :throw

Yeah. I saw this story and just knew that it would be here in the torches and pitchforks tfw fashion with everyone loosing faith in humanity and remembering the good ol' days where people were civil even if those days never existed.

Seriously guys. Unless this is a really serious situation where everything is about to blow the fuck up :bay  untrained people have no business moving injured people. I would be pretty pissed too if my friend did something to me after an accident which caused me to be fucking paralyzed.
